You have me checking Craig's list for deals.... I need another, more dependable scoot to go along with my China scoot. Projects are always fun. I would love to find a Yamaha twin jet 100 from the '60s. I loved that thing at 15.

I had one, a nice bike. My father bought it after he retired and rode it for a year and gave it to me. It was supposed to be the smallest twin cyl bike in the world.

--update--
working thru the BS system to get it registered here in mi. had just a bill of sale and since the guy i bought it from just used it round the yard, he never registered it. had it for over 10 years apparently. now i have to sign a whole bunch of paperwork to get my sticker and get an appraisal so they can charge me sales tax on WHAT ITS WORTH, not how much i paid for it. nice backwards system we have here. i swear, sometimes they make up $h!t just to see how bad you want it registered ill keep you updated...

remember this?_------> yuma.craigslist.org/mcy/4401695595.htmli finally got it, the lady owner finally replied after 6 days? i went to her house, looked at the scooter, at first i was a little skeptical to buy it because the physical appearance is quite unpleasant, and she said we cant start it because there was no gas, hmmm? told myselff,is she hiding something then i asked her if 50 bucks is her last price? then she said how much you got??? wohooo!!music to my ears!!! i grabbed my wallet and took $28 , is this enough??? she said ill take it.. alright deal!!! she handed me the duly signed title and bill of sale.. it has new batt but discharged cuz the bike sat for a year, it has 2 flat but fairly new tires, i put some air and up to now it stayed hard. 2t oil res is full, i put some gas, kicked it 3times the it fired right up, ahh i really felt the japanese-ness of the scooter. first thing i did was to change the tramsmission oil, i removed the old transmission oil, i siphoned almost i liter if oil of it, and to my surprise i discovered that this scooter doesnt use a Vbelt, .. it ran with direct gearing, wow im impressed!!! this scooter runs and sounds very very smooth. , my wife saw it and she's very excited to ride with me tomorrow, it still has the current license plate. its a 1988 yamaha razz. 28 bucks of Fun!!! FITS MY SUV

good to see your having fun on it! shouldnt be too long for me. maybe monday. thats a better deal than mine. theyre both the same year. these have centrifugal clutch and chain drive. mine needs new back brake shoes and they are for some reason not easy to find. weird for something that was made until 2001.

I see california is not the only state that has crazy laws on the books for registering vehicles,,i see great deals on scooters and bikes all the time from out of state,,even with the shipping to me it's still a great deal,,,found a really nice sv1000 suzuki on the net at a dealer,,no miles,,garage kept covered it was like new,,,stupid low price,,,can't register it here ,,,didn't have 7500 miles on it which is the cutoff for import bikes,,,and over on the prof forum i bumped into a thread where this one company is literally giving crate scoots away,,,can't get one registered here,,,i'm still working on that but hope is fading,,,

Way to go Luke! A 50cc scooter for $28 is a deal too good to pass up. That it started and runs is like winning the lottery. Another garage dweller comes to life.

thanks kz and ya'll,,, i ve always been dealing with cvt ran by vbelt, havent really seen a single speed gear chain drive transmission, im sure it has clutch shoes inside somewhere, so thats the only thing that needs to be changed if worn, no belt no roller weights, i like razz cuz its amaizingly quiet and run smoooth. i put almost 1 liter of oil, i dunno how far that oil goes or which part it lubricates, i really want to open that tranny cover to see whats inside. curious here!!

The only knock I ever heard on chain or geared drive was that the scoot it was on would only do about 30 mph. The gearing is fixed with a range limit. On a CVT it's like having a multi gear transmission so you have a low gear to pull away with and higher gears (lower numerically) for when you get rolling. Even still, 30 mph is more than adequate and those bikes would run forever.

on mileage you won't believe, it says about 43,600 miles on the odo, im pretty sure its lying but who knows. ill take a picture of the numbers later. yes kz, half throttle gets me about 30mph, it still has more to give but i dont wanna push it to its limit. 30-35 is ok for wifey. finally i get to see her ride again this morning after 12 yrs.
