Get scooter insurance that has a towing plan. My progressive plan costs $85 per year and includes towing.

Look at it this way. If you buy scooter insurance that offers unlimited towing, and you enjoy wrenching, then a Chinese scooter is for you. Every time my car or scooter develops a new problem, I figure out how to fix it which makes me a better mechanic. A couple weeks ago, I was intimidated to change the rear tire. Now I look forward to doing it again.

Also consider used Yamahas or Hondas on Craigs List. I bought my 1988 Yamaha 125cc on Craigs List for $400 and I love it. I would not recommend scooters under 125cc because it would be hard to keep up with local traffic.

Also, buy scooter insurance that has towing service. I pay $85 per year for Progressive insurance which includes theft and towing. Already got my scooter towed when the battery bit the dust. And watch this video to increase your odds of survival.....

I walked into a local dollar store wearing my full face helmet with the face shield open. An employee walked up to me and rudely told me to remove the helmet and put my backpack behind the register. I was insulted by her tone. And if I were a criminal, I would not steal items worth just a dollar. Also, my backpack was the same size as a woman's purse and women do not have to put their purses behind the register. (Rant complete) |

Gave up trying to inflate the tire because the bead would not seal. Drove to local car tire shop. Worker told me he is not allowed to work on non-car tires, but he did it anyway. He inflated it within 2 minutes. He charged me nothing. Offered him a tip. He refused. Gave him $5 anyway.

Do what I did. Connect your car battery to your scooter battery using jumper cables but DO NOT START YOUR CAR ENGINE. See if you scooter starts. If so, your scooter battery is bad.

I can't get the damn beads to seal. Do I need to buy a valve stem remover so I can inflate the tire very quickly?

Holy crap I am proud of myself. Removed rear wheel for the first time ever. Not too hard. Had to buy 15/16 socket for the wheel nut. Used long torque wrench to remove nut. Removing the tire was PAIN IN THE BUTT. Broke bead by putting a cynder block on the side of the tire and pushed down on it using a metal rod positioned under the jacking point of my car for leverage. After removing old tire, I tried for an hour to install new tire but I couldn't even get one side of the tire on the rim. Considered spending $80 for a Harbor Freight motorcycle tire installing tool. Finally I found this excellent video and mastered his technique. Now I can install scooter tires with just one tire iron and no other tools....
