Well, 35mph is not exactly what i feel safe on the road with. I would like a bit better acceleration, and an increased top speed.
I would like to set a budget of 150-200 dollars.( I can and will spend more if needed, 300 max) I have built MX bikes before and have tools and pretty good mechanical abilities.
Right now the 50cc is pretty much stock with a good bit of miles on it. 12,000 miles. It's had a long life, and it's time for a rebuild I think.
I am new to the scooter world, and just trying to get a feel for where to get parts and what combo's work. I don't want to just buy things and then find out they really are not worth the money.

Is there a way to upgrade the performance of the 50cc scooter? Skooter, I know your new here but have you read any of the threads in this section? There are more ways to upgrade than you can shake a stick at. A lot depends on what you want to get out of the $$ you spend. Everything from roller weights to BBKs (big bore kits), re-jetting to performance exhausts. I'm not trying to be mean, so please ask any and all questions you have. M/C Oh, btw, welcome to the forum!  No worries mate, i quickly browsed around but it seemed like everything I saw was targeted toward 150cc mods. I'll keep on looking, and thank you for the welcome. Lots of good info and friendly members on this forum. |

Or would a 150 conversion be the best route to go?

Did you ever finish the 50-150 conversion? This is something I would love to do to my scoot.

Thanks for the info. Where can i get a cheap replacement spark plug boot?
I checked the 1 link above but I couldnt find the boot.

OK everyone thanks for the tips.
I was able to charge the battery, and add gas. The scooter turns over but it won't start. It is pumping fuel through the lines. I checked the spark plug but it looks like the spark plug boot is cracked, and a piece is missing. (maybe this is where my problem is)
This is going to be some project for sure, haha.

Welcome skooter! Has it got spark at the plug? You should be able to kickstart it with no battery in it... If it was in storage with gas in the tank, then you will have to drain and clean the entire fuel system. They get varnished up really easily. The jets are extremely fine and they get plugged with crud. You will also need to take the carb off and apart and soak it overnight in carb cleaner. Then run a very thin wire (twist tie) , or a high E guitar string through the jets. Put it all back together. Some scooters will not start if the side stand is down. Some scooters will only start when it is on the centre stand. Check the position of the kill switch. Pull the left brake handle when you try and start it... Are the rear brake lights coming on when you turn the key? I will check those things out tomorrow and post back here. This is my first skooter so I'm learning as i go. I can imagine it's going to need a good cleaning and the carb cleaned, fresh fuel, fully charged battery etc. It has high mileage as well, but it did run as of 4 months ago. I may end up putting a new motor in, or maybe big bore kit. Are there any sites that sell parts for these things? |

Hello to everyone! Today I was able to pick up a scooter. It's my first scooter, but I do have background in motocross and bikes etc. I have a few questions so if everyone could just be patient I'll try to make this easy. I am really not sure what brand the scooter is to be honest. It's a few years old, and it's going to need to help, lol Is there a website that sells scooter parts? I posted a picture of what it looks like. It does crank and has battery power. But it won't start. So far: I know this. It will probably need a new charge on the battery. It will need some new gas, and possibly the carb to be cleaned. What are some other things I can check for to try and get this scooter running? Is there anything I should focus on common problems? I would look to go over this thing real good and fix any issues so i not left stranded somewhere. I am trying to give it a good once over top to bottom.
