Went to a friends house and after seeing what he had rotting in the back yard I had no choice but to rescue it. Imagine my surprise when I pulled back the tarp to reveal a complete 1985 Suzuki gv700 Madura. I had never heard of one of these before and for a good reason. The gv700 was only made for one year. Apparently Suzuki grew a wild hair and decided to give the Honda Magna a run for its money. So here we have a 700cc liquid cooled, shaft drive V4 bike that's been reported to be a 13 second bike out of the box. Got it home and gave it a good once over, changed the plugs, the oils, flushed the coolant and the fuel, installed a new battery, some fresh fuel and man I love that sound.

ok, so I picked up the new bike and man; does it need work. someone spilled brake fluid all over the gas tank, the inside of the tank needs cleaning as well as the carbs. he says it needs battery and a regulator but it also needs side covers. most of the chrome is starting to pit and it looks like its been outside, uncovered for no less than 5 years. the good news is I drained the carbs and ran some fresh gas and it starts!

hey all, I may be trading my yy150t-12 for one of these. 1985 suzuki gv700 with 32k on the clock. owner state it needs a battery, a regulator and a paint job but runs awesome. will find out more this weekend.

you said you added fresh gas to the tank but did the carb get fresh fuel? carb may need cleaning as untreated gas has a short shelf life.

I think the measurements that would be most beneficial to you would be; center of eyelet to center of eyelet expanded and contracted to give you length of travel, eyelet center diameter and depth

your bike doesn't need the battery to run so that's going to be a completely separate issue. first, check valve clearance. then check for air leaks at the carb and intake. check the gas cap is venting.
the charging system in scooters is marginal at best. voltage output to the battery will vary with rpm's. load test the battery, clean all contacts, get a battery charger.

as the motor gets broken in it should get easier to keep with traffic. putting on a bbk now would mean starting the break in all over.

jump the 2 large terminals on the solenoid. if starter operates, solenoid may be at fault. if nothing happens, starter may be at fault. it does sound like the starter may need to get cleaned or rebuilt

I would think that unplugging the headlight would eliminate the extra battery drain during starting, allowing the starter to actually have more power to start.

these are scooters, there is no such thing as a "bolt on mod". it all depends on what you're looking to do and how big your wallet is. any adjustments to the intake or exhaust will require adjustments to the carb.

have the battery load tested. check all connections ( bat to gnd, bat to sol, sol to starter).
