greginisn Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I'll use 4t motor oil since I already have some of that and will be starting the engine as soon as the work is completed . . . If everything goes right. Greg

Hi Everybody,
I’m wondering what the consensus is on on motor assembly lube these days. In the good old days we used STP oil treatment cuz It stayed where you put it. Just wondering what to use for lubing a BBK during assembly. Or is motor oil good enough?
Thanks, Greg

greginisnCy, Thanks for the info, I had concerns that the little motors had been crippled further. Greg

Jct,
I don't think I'd want to change the labeling other than maybe removing it, but a 47mm bore bbk is not out of the question. just enough to keep up in small town traffic. No highway stuff.
Thanks, Greg

Hi All,
I have noticed that some of the Taotao retailers have recently started listing the 50cc scoot specs at 1.8 hp and other retailers still list 3.5 hp in their specs.
What is a potential customer to think? Has Taotao really reduced the hp level for some evil undisclosed reason? Is there some new method of restriction we have to learn about.
Has anyone had any encounters with these new “1.8 hp” scoots? Please say it ain’t so.
Greg

2T'd
No problem and no offense taken. I realize that a 50cc scoot can be soonly outgrown but with my limited needs and no real justification to own one of any kind, maybe we can think of this as the camel's nose under the tent? 😇

El camino,
JB Weld sells a gas tank repair kit with epoxy & fiberglass mat.
Never tried it but do like JB stuff.

greginisn 2t, I rode motorcycles for some 20 years prior to moving here and have ridden thousands of miles, highway, city, small town and cross country miles. I never had a wreck and never had an occasion to do any maneuvers that in any way resembled what is expected of riders seeking an MC endorsement. I haven't ridden in years, other than bicycles, and I don't know if I still have the skills necessary to pass those tests. With the 50cc I can relearn to ride the 2 wheelers and If I can't pass the MC skills tests I'll still be able to ride the 50 cc scoot and I won't have a 150 cc scoot sitting in the garage gathering dust. So I do have valid reasons for thinking 50 cc's. Thanks for your input tho . . . Greg

greginisn The Lancer was my first choice but since I don't currently have an MC endorsement or any great plans for hwy riding, just to the local grocer or Walmart. A scooter that flys below the police radar but maybe with a 72cc kit to maintain 35 mph would be adequate for my purposes? Thanks for your replies. Greg

Bashan, JR, Alleyoop, Hi, My first post. I’ve been lurking a long time and more recently a member. This is a great forum and you all have a great wealth of knowledge. I have a few questions of the generic variety. From reading thru the more recent postings it seems that the Chinese GY6 scoots have become far less troublesome than they had been or have the people learned not to ask the same questions over and over again and do some research on existing data? What is happening with Taotao? I have noticed recently that the Taotao Evo 50cc scooter has had a serious price increase. I see also that it is built on a larger than normal 50cc chassis. At this point the Taotao Evo 50cc and the Lancer 150cc are nearly equal in price. Which is the better buy? Does the recent Evo price hike indicate that it is a better made machine than the others? gjdinisn
