The emissions control gadjets on the gy6 has changed over the years so if your scoot is a fairly recent model the videos won’t show you how to get rid of your excess bits. Just watch the videos to get a basic idea of what’s what and then “wing it”. It’s a simpler system these days.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but since I mentioned before. . . My new Taotao Thunder arrived 3 days ago. I'm still working my way thru the PDI and have found a few issues, so far easy fixes. This is proving to be a very fun & interesting project, this PDI stuff, I should be riding soon. Still waiting on MSO type papers, just applied yesterday.
Cheers!

The 49cc people seem to think the QMBs run better with std intake & exhaust. Unless you have made major engine mods, bbk, stroker crank hot cam kinds of things. Many people run an 82 to 85 main jet and alls well.
Good Luck.

With a volt meter check for 12volts on both ends of your fuses. Strip down the scooter and look for cut or mashed wires or a loose connector.
Fuses have been known to go open at or near the metal cap and still look OK.
Good luck

Rgjr1,
I hope you still check in once in a while.
There is post on either scootdawg.com or scootdawg.net dealing with adapting a gy6 CDI to a Vino or Buddy 50. Search their posts for all the info. It's not a plug & play type thing you will need wiring skills.
Good luck and sorry for the huge delay.

1- Do you have spark at the plug?
2- If you have the original intake system check for air box and intake manifold leaks too.

If the VIN is clear maybe a "lost title" approach would work for you?

Don't forget to check the clutch for belt trash too.

If you want to buy a TaoTao 50 check out the Thunder. It seems to have the features I felt are important like dual rear shocks, 12” wheels and fairly large under seat storage. The glove compartment area has no cover but does it matter? If you do buy a China scoot do the PDI and take your time. When you see something not quite right, fix it or it will bite your arse later. Get a digital multimeter, Amazon, Sears(?) for about $20 and get familiar with it. I think this forum has PDI info in the Tech section, if not just google for it. YouTube has many, many videos on the care & feeding of these QMB scoots. If you do get a 50cc outfit check out 49ccscoot.com. It's dedicated to the 49-50cc scooter rider (you won't get hassled for riding a 50). BTW I'm planning to buy a Thunder myself soon. Good luck, Greg Not going with the evo...a 150 size scoot with a 50 cc, doesnt seem good to me. Probably going with the cy50a, repairing a little scooter is no problem for me,I mean I work on Cadillacs all day at a dealer, I have more electrical experience than you would care to know..lol, just wanted some input on owners of wither models, Thanks I had considered the Evo too as well as the Zummer and ATM50. The Evo reads well until it dawns on a guy that it's just that much more weight to drag around for a 50cc motor. Good luck and enjoy your scoot Greg

Rks,
Thanks for the kind words.
We were out in the car today and happened across a very used 1963 Vespa 150cc and it was priced at $5300. Insane? I think so, put car in gear & drove away.
Maybe those are Boom Town prices, we're in Williston ND but the boom has busted. It was the only scoot i've ever seen for sale around here, new or used.

El Camino,
The vacuum is a brilliant idea. I would have been afraid the tank would crush while under vacuum. Good job!
