Greetings, I now have slightly over 500 miles on the Rowdy and have it apart for some maintenance. I put new 1500 rpm springs in the clutch and installed a 1500 clutch torque spring. I also installed an audible "beeper" on the turn signal flasher. I pulled the plug to check it and it appears almost too clean.....as in lean. Should I be concerned it is running this lean? Originally it started hard but I have never had a problem with it after the initial tank of Seafoam was run through. That seemed to clear up the hard starting..... My other questions concern the CDI and the coil. I'd like to have a spare on hand. I still have a new coil from my 50cc project. Does the 150cc take the same part? Also, can you tell by my photo if the CDI is a DC unit or AC unit or do I need to trace the wiring, etc...Thanks Bill

What I wanted is to go for a 1/2 tank on back roads then see where the heck I was so I could decide where I wanted to go! Tomtom will take you home but I might not want to go home yet. If you are serious just see if you could either borrow a car gps or even ride with some one who has one installed, get some sun light on it and see how far it zooms out. If it doesn't do what you want you just saved buying one like I did. Thanks jct842 and terrilee for your input. I will take both of your opinions/experience and see if I can come up with a temp mount/power source to the gps before buying another so I can evaluate the screen legibility issue. No sense having one if you can't see it when you need it....

[quote author=jct842 board=150cc thread=7311 post=57083 time=1357242479 not bright enough to use in daylight, in the car it is in the shade a. [/quote]
Thanks for your input. I am now wondering if that is why the motorcycle specific GPS's are so costly....that maybe the screens are designed to be legible in the sunlight....My auto gps does have a feature that lets you zoom out though so you can get a general idea on where you are in relation to nearby cities, etc...which I certainly could have used on one of my last "no end point" rides. I wasn't "lost" as I had lots of gas in the tank and was enjoying the back country ride but I certainly didn't know specifically where I was either....hence the thought about getting a gps for the scoot.

i just ran a fused wire to a cig is add a little cover/top to the top of the GPS to block sunglare, with some super glue.
What brand is yours and what size screen does yours have? With the antiglare top you have added, is it readily readable?

If you want the clutch to engage at a higher rpms you need to change the Small Clutch springs try the 1500 rated springs. If you want more rpms then go with lighter rollers. For evrey gram you go lighter than what you have you will gain from 500-600 rpms. So knowing that you can tune it to whatever rpms you want it to run at and what rpms the motor will run at. Alleyoop Thanks Alley for the reply. I will get a set of the 1500 springs ordered and go from there. Thanks again.

Just coming up on the 500 mile mark on my Rowdy....It has been a pleasure I must say. Only thing I had to tighten was a bolt on the handlebars that had loosened and I have added mirror extenders so I can have a clear view over my shoulder. I was having some starting difficulties but a tank of premium fuel with Seafoam in it has cured that. I had my doubts but now I'm a believer in it....and use it at every fill up. Now, it starts immediately and stays running, even in the 20 degree days we have had ....Very happy with it to say the least. ;D
I do have some questions on proper tuning of the CVT though. I feel the clutch engages way too early, as in just off of idle when not much HP is being developed. Also, on hills, I feel the engine should be able to rev a little higher than what it is.... I don't have a tach but it is a "seat of the pants" feeling that the revs are too low and it is dropping out of the power band.
To increase the engagement rpm do I change the the variator rollers, the small springs in the clutch, the big clutch spring, or a combination of the above? I know that lighter rollers will let the engine rev a little freer but will that change engagement rpm? Thanks in advance for your input.

One other thing about a majesty is that it has a parking brake that is a mechanical linkage which is part of the rear caliper. Mine was tight enough when I bought it to stop a scooter going highway speeds. It is now just tight enough to keep the scooter from rolling forward and off the side stand. Rear pads should last almost forever. The Rowdy has a parking brake also. It appears to go to a standard drum brake setup on the rear wheel. The caliper for the disc brakes is on the opposite side. My parking brake seems awfully tight now that you mention it. I will check the adjustment in the morning. May need to back it off some. Thanks

What is the life expectancy of disc brake pads under "average" usage? Do most people change as needed, yearly, or otherwise...?
Thanks

Love that seat. Looks like it can be folded down for passenger or up as back rest. Yes, it has a lever on the side of the seat and the back drops down to make a passenger seat. I'm 6'2" and it is proportioned just right for me. I don't feel cramped at all..... The seat also is quickly adjustable front to back with a pull release button so it can be slid forward for shorter riders. Got out this afternoon and put 40 easy miles on it before my fingers starting freezing and headed home. The only issue I'll need to look into is it doesn't start real easy when cold. Have to start it 6-8 times before it will stay running. Once engine is warm, it always fires right off. I've put some Seafoam in the fuel to see if that will help any. Will wait until I've run a tank or so through it to see if it helps. May have to do some troubleshooting on the choke circuit to see if it is working....

new2scooters, WOW, that's a great looking scoot, I like the looks of that muffler (cool) Thanks for the compliments. Tomorrow I'm getting plates and insurance so sometime in the afternoon I plan on putting a few easy miles on it. My last "new" 2 wheeler was in 1973 so this one was a long time coming. Unfortunately my last new one was a new HD and it spent more time in the shop than what I did riding it.....electrical, transmission, always was one thing or another.... I'm hoping this one fares better....

nice ride what size wheels does it have like the looks of them It has 13" wheels. Scoot feels extremely solid, unlike some other scoots I've sat on. The only drawback I've found thusfar is the lack of storage space. Will remedy that when I find some type of a bag for the rear of the scooter. A large softside cooler is just about the right size

For sale: 2 new "project scooters". Red in color. These are identical to the thread on this board "My First Scooter Build". I built one of these scooters through to completion and had a great time doing it. I have these two remaining scooters I would like to sell to recoup my funds for use with my latest scoot, The Rowdy. These would be a local pickup in Onondaga, MI 49264. Scooters are complete less drive train, and my build can be followed here on this forum. scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=customscootsmodsetc&action=display&thread=5515$125 for the pair, cash on pickup.

Just thought I'd post of picture of my new Rowdy 150cc scooter. Picked it up late Friday so haven't had time to get plates and insurance on it but will get that done in the next day or so....I had been looking for one for quite a while and when my "First Scooter Build" project sold, I jumped at the chance to get this one.
