If it started after you had valve cover off...it's most likely the o-ring gasket pictured 4 posts above

I know I'm a bit late posting to this thread...but it does pertain to the OP's question. Pulled my valve cover this AM, just to take a look..scoot has been starting fine and running super fine...but I hadn't looked at the valves in 2000 miles...a little PM was in order Pulled the spark plug....then remembered this thread and thought I'd post a photo of my plug. The gap had opened up to .027'...reset to .025" and reinstalled. My 'Jonway', came from China with this standard NGK plug......4100 miles ago, I installed a K&N cone filter, rejected carb to 115...have done nothing with exhaust, cdi, or coil. Feel i'll get a few thousand more miles out of this plug. [img src=" i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj622/rks3526/000_0384.jpg" src=" " alt=" "]

Think you'll be happier with the 115...Put that size in my carb when I threw the air box away in favor of a K&N cone filter. That was 4000 miles, and over 2 years ago....haven't touched the carb for any reason since then....Bob

Look guys...we all know that stop and go driving, and mostly short trip operation, will require more frequent oil changes......but if you can't see.... that running a 125 to 150cc scooter 10 hours a day, over 3 mountain ranges, from coast to coast, in 16 days, is going to stress these engines far more than the normal pleasure rides, or commutes most of us do.....then, I don't know Still say a trip like this one, on regular 10w/40, is quite a tribute to today's conventional motor oils.... Keep using your super lubes, it's no skin off my nose....Happy Scooting ...Bob

Did those of you who followed this story, happen to catch the fact that these fellas, did this trip running a 10w/40 conventional motor oil?
People spending 7 to 10 dollars, for a quart of some exotic super lube, just to run around town, might want to rethink the logic in their choice of oils.

Sounds like engine oil is over full to me.... or....constant, WOT operation will cause higher crankcase pressures, and in turn push more oil out through the vent tube.....or.....engine is worn out causing excessively high crankcase pressures (doubt this is it with the miles you stated).....Bob You might also check that the baffle plate hasn't been removed [img src=" i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj622/rks3526/KGrHqJqFHpQTwwu9BSDsYvJWEg60_57.jpg" src=" " alt=" "]

No scars on my scooter.... And contrary to popular belief, not all of us have found ourselves lying in the weeds, with our bike on it's side. Got that kind of thing out of my system back in my bicycle years. Avoiding drunk or distracted drivers involves a degree of luck, but even that threat can be lessened (but certainly not eliminated), by making careful choices in where and when to ride.
Dumping a bike, when not being struck by another vehicle, is either, (most likely) operator error, or (less likely) equipment failure, and probably caused by improper maintenance.

"If the Chinese had engineered this system with a liquid/vapor seperator it would have been more reliable and oil making its way into the air cleaner box would be almost nil, and could be handled by the engine on the clean air side of the air cleaner box. This would also decrease emissions and allow the capture and burning of HC, not to mention oil pollutants." So why not just install a "catch can" between your valve cover and air box. Mine has a chunk of copper pot scrubber stuffed in it to aid in condensing the vapors....have never had a drop of oil, or any other liquid exit the outlet tube. I replaced the breather box with a K&N Cone Filter 2 years ago.....but outlet tube connected to OEM air cleaner would be an option. This would keep your air filter bone dry....Bob s1271.photobucket.com/user/rks3526/media/Breather%20Catch%20Can/IMG_0074.jpg.html

Bought my Chinese Scoot new....only problems I've had are...a nail puncture in rear tire at 3000 miles.....and a failing battery after 2 years and 3 months. I have made several modifications, and improvements to it....cuz I wanted to....not because of failures or breakdowns
BUT....I did a complete PDI before I ever attempted to start my scooter. (PDI instructions are available in the Library Section of this forum)
You will find that those who do a PDI, are far happier with their scooters.....and it's Just as important to do one when buying used.....Bob

Don't know if it's done, but it's been running way too rich. Need to do something to lean it down some. My scoot's plug, is the one that came in it from China. That was 2.5 years ago, (4168 miles). Engine starts first time piston comes up on compression stroke, never rolls over and over before starting. Fuel mileage is in the low to mid 80's.....my plug doesn't need changing yet....This is a standard plug...not a platinum, iridium, two, three or four prong job.
My lawn mower is on it's 10th season, a little bigger than a scoot engine, but same type, forced air cooling. Mower had 581 hours on it, when I changed the plugs the first time. That's about equal to 15000 miles. Hours now stand at 960...will be at 1000 by end of this season,...will be changing plugs then for the 2nd time
If engine is properly maintained, tuned, and operated, the plug should last far longer than yours has.....Bob

rks, I did do some of the fuel and vac lines, basically anything that looked bad got replaced. Yours looks pretty much identical in the motor department, is your fuel filter hidden under the frame in the pic? Yes, it's out of view, between tank and fuel pump....know i'll be told it belongs between pump and carb...but things are working fine as they are. Think I'd change any lines you haven't already done, don't use ethanol laced gas..it destroys the fuel systems of all small carb engines... And as Bashan said...adjust your valves

Have you done anything with the fuel and vac lines? In your picture they look like they may be original equipment....7 years old?...ethanol gas?... Have you checked air box..maybe a family of rodents have moved in.. I have pretty much the same style scoot...fuel pump mounted in same place....over 4000 miles, runs better and better as miles add up I replaced those rubber fuel lines with tygon, before I ever started my scoot...didn't do the vac lines, but will long before they are 7 years old...Bob [img src=" i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj622/rks3526/000_0374.jpg" src="http:// " alt=" "]

Very true. If I can I'll get a video comparing the two tachs on my scooter. I will give an advance warning though; the digital tach in my scoot only reads 1/2 on the actual rpms, I think it was designed for a 2-cylinder engine. The tach (the one linked to in the OP) is made in and ships from china. I'll bet that your digital tach can be set to read correctly on your scooter...I bought this one over 2 years ago...made in China...sold thru Ebay...$12.59 including shipping....still works fine, and can be set for 1 or 2 cylinder engines...Bob [img src=" i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj622/rks3526/KGrHqJHJBYFBUdNooEcBRrQezWhg60_12.jpg" src=" " alt=" "]
