We had 10 in a row at 90+ with some at 100. It's been too hot to do much of anything. The worse part has been no appreciable rain. Everything has been wilting. We finally got a decent rain this morning but it's going back into the 90's. It's been hotter here than in some parts of the south.

The Three Mile Island Scooter Club has scheduled its annual rally for August 17 & 18. The rally is really a blast. Here's the email that I just received. The MELTDOWN Scooter Rally for 2012 is August - 8/17 - 8/19. Check out the “MELTDOWN” section of the scooter club website: www.tmisc.org. As always, your registration covers camping, T-shirt (kick arse and old school TMISC), food, soft drinks and live music; along with ride, games, gymkhana, raffles, prizes, surprises and more ... and of course, the beer is always free to all comers. 2009’s MELTDOWN was the only US rally to be featured in England’s premiere scoot magazine, “Scootering”. Plan to attend this years MELTDOWN and find out why. Due to the size of the venue, Meltdown 2012 will be limited to150 people. To avoid disappointment, please pre register as soon as possible. If your plans change, our liberal refund policy is posted on the registration site. Rally details are here: www.tmisc.org/meltdown.htm

The closest clubs that I know of are about 20 miles away in either York or Camp Hill. As long as you're looking at the map, my place is at the bottom end of the lake arm at the bottom right. Not lake front, but lake view.

Sunday was absolutely gorgeous. After I got my chores done, I decided I'd go out for a ride around the lake and see what's happening. I'm on the lake and watershed protection committee so I try and keep an eye on things. Anyway, I rode around for about 15 miles and was headed home. In the past few weeks, I've seen a silver maxi cruising around. I was about a block from home when I saw it sitting in the driveway. It turned out to be a Majesty. I stopped and introduced myself to the owners. They're a couple about my age that moved into their place in January. Seem like nice people. We may try to do some riding together. There are also a couple of other scooter riders I'm trying to find and maybe organize something.

Sorry about the delay. We had company all weekend. I still find it odd. My plate is actually in the center trunk under the seat. The E-bike could have problems because of the lack of safety features. If the others were tagged in another state and you've owned them for a while, you should still be able to title/plate them in PA whether or not the seller had a PA vendor permit. If you just bought them, PA might want sales tax. Did you call PennDot or check with AAA?

89- where are you in PA? First - there are a number of Wildfires titled here in PA (also a number of dealers". The dmv website does say that ..... "Motor Scooters In order for a motor scooter(motor-driven cycle as defined by the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code) to be legally operated on roadways, it must be titled and registered in the commonwealth and have the proper insurance. In order to be titled and registered it must meet PA's equipment and inspection requirements for motor-driven cycles. Many motor scooters do not have the necessary equipment, such as fenders, turn signals, lights, etc., to pass inspection. Individuals who are looking into purchasing a motor scooter for transportation purposes should verify that there is a manufacturer's certification label affixed to the scooter indicating the scooter meets the applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) for a motorcycle and the certification label is located on a permanent part of the scooter close to the intersection of the steering post with the handlebars and should be easily readable without moving any part of the vehicle except the steering system. Those not manufactured for highway use will not have a certification label and cannot be operated on highways. Even if a motor scooter were properly equipped and could pass inspection, it still may not be appropriate for use on all roadways if it is not powerful enough to keep up with other traffic. According to Section 3364, Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law, no person shall drive a motor vehicle at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable flow of traffic. A motor scooter owner or potential owner should check with local law enforcement officials to ensure they can operate a motor scooter on their intended travel route." You may have to get a "special inspection" to determine if it's ok to register but it can be done. The problem is that there were so many "brands' of scooters that the state data base is incomplete. Here's the "fact sheet" that also defines the "classes" of bikes including those with electric motors. The problem with those and the bicycles with motors is usually the lack of all req'd safety equipment. When all else fails, call/email and talk with PennDot - see below www.dmv.state.pa.us/contact_us/index.shtmlGood luck!

I saw Smorkle's post below. Here's a couple other hazards that I found yesterday. This also posted over on Scooter Prof.
Yesterday was nice and sunny and a bit cool. I needed to run into town and go to the library. At 10 AM it was 55 degrees so I decided to ride the scoot. I put the pony express bags on the scoot and loaded up. I decided to take the back road due to the pipeline construction on the main road.
The other day, I was coming back from the dentist up near the construction site. I saw this person running toward the road and it looked like she wasn't going to stop and I'd hit her. I managed to brake down and so did she. When I was past, I looked in the mirror and saw her run into a porta-potty. I guess when you gotta go, you gotta go.
Anyhow, I'm ripping down the back road at about 40 mph yesterday and come into a little dip and blind curve. There's a turkey vulture in the road. He takes off and just as I get to where he was, his buddy takes off out of the bushes. All of a sudden, I'm looking at a bird with a 6 foot wingspan a couple feet in front of the windshield. We missed each other, thank the Good Lord, but talk about a cardiac check.
I made it to town without further incident.
When I was coming home, I came up on one of the local farms. All of a sudden, a herd of free-range chickens runs into the road and panics when they see me and are running around in circles flapping wings. Missed them too. Note - I DID have chicken for dinner.
Ride safe friends!

I've been riding around the lake but hadn't ventured outside. Monday was nice and the scoot needed gas so I decided to ride into town. Texas Eastern is putting in a new gas pipeline up the way on the main road and there's a lot of construction activity so I thought I'd run in the back way. It sure was fun and scenic doing 45 mph on the twisties through farm country. I did about 20 miles round trip.
Bad side - 93 octane was $4.29!
When I got back, I decided to trim the forsythia out front that haven't been touched in years. I started at about 10, finished about 2PM. I thought I was going to croak off from the heat. At 6 PM, it was still 87 degrees.

I'm sorry to hear about Lady Bug. You and she have been an institution around the scoot community. Enjoy the uke!
