Those are Beautiful!!!!!! Now where were ya when I was looking for a Tomos? Still looking BTW (Hint, Hint) That MB5 is a real nice restoration but, That little Express is just as nice ( love the baby blue) IMO. Nice to see someone knows the difference between a Moped and a Scooter. Even though the law says different. Keep up the great work!!! BTW if ya ever come across another LX or Targa for sale let a Doc know Bong, If I find one I will have to deliver it too you. My wife has been killing me to go to Vegas....that's the deal. I know of about 3 Tomos right now.

Thanks for all the kind words. They are a lot of fun, easy to fix and you can find them cheap. Actually working on one now. Bought one in rough shape for $150 and got it running. Found a guy that has one tore apart that he can't put back together and we may trade. His is in much better shape and has performance parts. I will keep everyone posted.
Cookees, I will send you a PM

I thought I would post my last few project on here. Some have gone, some have stayed, all were enjoyable. My latest, 1980 Puch Maxi, was trashed when I got it, paid $150 and have put another $25 into it along with a lot of elbow grease This was my last Tomos, put it together with the parts from seven bikes. Sold it to a kid in Columbus and he uses it around the Ohio State campus, gets lots of compliments This Blue Tomos, I also put together out of parts and traded it for my Honda MB5 Next is my Honda MB5. Very rare in the states, only sold one year and that was 1982. Street legal 50cc with a 5 speed transmission. Redlines at 10,500 rpm and very quick. Before and after picture. I need to buy a new set of decals for the tank. Finally my 1980 Honda Express. This started it all with mopeds for me. Had one when I was a kid and enjoyed it, so bought one and fixed it up, my kids enjoyed the hell out of it.

I agree so far. If you put in a new CDI, that should eliminate that opportunity of failure. Next time it does not start, pull the plug wire off, stick in a spare plug and ground it against the head and turn it over and see if it sparks. If you have spark, that will eliminate the electric issue.
Then I would pull the hose off the back of the carb and start the bike, when it starts to die, spray some gas in the back of the carb and see if it continues to run. If it does, the jet is plugged and not pulling fuel up through the jet to keep the bike running.
Also check you idle screw, some bikes will not idle after the enricher shuts off unless the idle screw is set right. Can you keep the bike running by turning the throttle?
It sound like the jet is plugged. When the enricher shuts off, there is less vacuum to pull the fuel up through the jet that is partially plugged and it dies. Eliminate the spark issue first then start with the carb.

I suppose it depends on where the play is. If the play is in the wheel sliding back and forth on the shaft, adding another spacer or washer should take up the slack. If the play is in the shaft, there are bigger problems inside the CVT. The wheel slides onto the shaft and the the splines inside the wheel line up with the splines on the shaft.
Move the wheel and see if the shaft is moving or the wheel is moving.

So far, no overheating issues. I just fiiled the tank before my ride and the carb was cleaned thoroughly before I ever started riding the scoot. There are no noises coming from the CVT. It just shudders when you take off.

Well since we got our first 80 degree dry day yesterday, I took out the scoot. Me and my 11 yr. old daughter went for a nice ride and visited her Grandpa. I noticed that the bike shudders from takeoff then clears up. I did some reading this morning and see that the issue seems to be in the CVT and appears that I have rollers that have either developed flat spots or are stuck. I have also read that sliders will improve performance and last longer. I have NOT taken a CVT apart yet and it should not be a problem. Does this sound reasonable that the weights are the problem? What should I replace them with if the rollers are bad?

Probably because you weigh 120lbs. wet. Add another rider to your bike and see the difference. I do feel that is slow for a 150. Mine would do 55 with my 250 lb. ars and hit 60 downhill. Alley, mine would go faster if I stayed on it while going off the Grand Canyon.

Usually when that happens, I would put the clamp in a vise which would not tighten properly. Then I would try and figure out why the vise does not work so then I would take it apart and then the ratchet has been slipping for a while so I would take it apart to find out why. Then I would have to go to the store to buy a new snap clip to fix the ratchet to fix the vise to fix the clamp to fix the scoot.
