Yaay - All sorted. Purrs like a kitten (that smokes 60 a day). Just as I eventually thought, it was the chain guide. I cant have seated it properly when I put it back and it was catching the timing chain.
Bit cheesy to say but I've got to thank the forum. By putting prob down it made me re-think everything I'd done and by process of elimination it made me realise it must have been the guide (glad it was or I would have really been stumped). Off to bed now, up for work in 6hrs. Missus didn't bat an eyelid and even let me drink some of her cider, what a woman!!!!
See ya

Yeah, I've convinced myself that's the only thing it can be but I'm wrong more than I'm right so fingers crossed. Can't put off the inevitable, I'm going to do it now in the kitchen otherwise I'll just be thinking about it all night. Nearly 8.30pm here in the UK, so just gonna have a cup of tea and drag it in the kitchen.
I'll post later how it went!!!
Cheers

Thanks for reply. However, I have already checked it (re-gapped 3 times within last 24hrs). I have re-gapped before. When I first did the BBK (nearly a year ago), when I put it back together the gap was too big and although bike fired up it was very 'tappety' so I know what a badly adjusted gap sound like and this is similar but different (if that makes sense). It is a uniform noise/tap that increases with engine speed.
I know what you're saying, if it worked before I changed something then I must have done something wrong/different when putting back together but I really did put if back just as before.
Just as I'm typing this I'm wracking my brains going over the procedure but can't think what's happened.
It's not just coming from the head (like before when I didn't set the gap right) but seems to be mainly from the flywheel area or just behind it. Could the chain guide(black plastic thingy)somehow be catching on the chain if it's not seated correctly. When I put the chain tensioner back in the spring was still intact and I'm pretty sure I heard it engage when it was 'plunged'.
Any suggestions appreciated.
I'm gonna still use it tomorrow then when in from work I'm going to bring into the kitchen (no garage) and take apart & do again. I'm sure that's going to go down well with my missus.
Thanks

Hi, I have a 139qmb engined scooter that had a 80cc BBK last year that has been running perfectly.
Last couple of weeks it developed an oil leak coming from base of Cylinder barrel on the engine. I ordered new gasket and replaced it. Before moving barrel, etc I made sure it was at TDC and made sure that piston not moved when put everything back together exactly as before.
Sure enough, wouldn't start; turning but just not firing up.
Took off the head cover, re-gapped (again at TDC with the flywheel lined up with the T and the holes on camshaft just where they should have been, took spark plug out, turned CLOCKWISE to line up, put is back together and fired up first time.
However it sounded really tinny & tappetty (is there such a word??) so I again took took off cover and re-checked the gap (.004in). Put back together and sounds just the same but the noise seems to be coming from the flywheel area. On tickover it is a little noisy but as soon as revs increased it sounds terrible.
I've looked on another forum and someone seemed to have the same problem but it never got resolved so hoping I can get answers from you guys.
There is plenty of oil, bike starts up and ticks over without wanting to stall, just sounds wrong.
The bike rides just as it did but sounds as if it will blow up at any second.
Look forward to hearing your advices.
Thanks

Hi, don't know how much this adds to the topic but I installed 12v cig charger couple of months ago in order to connect solar powered trickle charger. Works brilliantly, battery constantly topped up to 12/13v and also able to use it to power my 12v impact wrench when I changed my clutch recently. A worthy addition to any bike. Mine's connected directly to battery with an inline 10a fast blow fuse. Cheers

Hello, interesting points by everyone. Reason for delay is only fitted it tonight. Big Drum roll,,,,,,, everything works fine now, doesn't engage until over 2000rpm now so wasn't a belt problem but was in fact the clutch springs. I've do have a variator pulley locking tool to hold in place so don't stretch the belt when removing but this weekend treated myself to a 12v impact gun (I put a 12v socket on bike a bit back so could plug in solar powered trickle charger). The gun is fantastic and it took just seconds to take off pulley nuts.
I'll be back in touch when I need some more advice, thanks

Thanks for replies. I'll have a look at the variator sliders & rollers tomorrow. If they are OK I think I will order a new clutch assembly. It is something that seems to have been happening for the last 6-8 weeks so I would guess that the clutch springs might have weakened.
Guess I'll have to track down an impact gun.
Thanks again.

Hi, I just need some advice on my clutch.
I have a Superbyke Powermax 4T (HT50QT-31)which has a 80cc BBK. Just put a new belt on last week as the original was wearing a little thin.
Even at just 1000rpm the back wheel still spins round but I wouldn't expect the clutch to engage until over 2000rpm. So when I am sat in traffic and should be idling at 1500rpm the clutch is trying to engage and move me off and wearing out the clutch prematurely.
As far as I am aware it is just the stock clutch & bell from new (4yrs old).
Do you think the springs on the clutch have weakened so that it engages too early?
If so, would I need to replace both the clutch springs & the contra spring and if so, what torque of spring.
Alternatively, on Ebay here in the UK I could buy a whole new clutch assembly (factory standard Boation clutch) for just £22.
As always, any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Just before I came back to the Forum I was trawling through Ebay bike parts and saw one so ordered it. What does it do and what on my bike might not be working properly as a result of this. Cheers

Ive tried to upload couple of pics but the pics I've taken are 3mb each and it won't allow me to upload a pic bigger than 1mb. What is the workaround please.
Cheers

No problem that I am aware of but if there is something that wasn't working when I bought it (bike is 4yr old and I've had it 6mths)then I wouldn't be aware if something wasn't quite right. I'm sure it is there for a reason so don't see a valid reason not to fix it. I'll post pic then any help would be gladly received.

Hi, I've just taken the front fairing off of my bike, Superbyke Powermax 50 4 stroke(just looking around) and bolted just next to the rectifier is a silver bracket with what looks like 30W39n stamped on it. When I took it off there is a spring that has been riveted to one end of the bracket, a ceramic disc around the spring(like you get on the end of a halogen linear bulb and heat resistant wire with a torpedo crimp on the end which then attaches to a green/white wire which goes into wiring loom and who knows where after that. Where the torpedo connections are it is quite dark as it looks like it has blown. it is 65mm long and 15mm wide. Any ideas what it is.
I'll try and take a pic and post but just got to go out now and take my son swimming.
Thanks

Hi, I've ordered a 7amp AGM battery with 130cca so hopefully that will sort it out.
Thanks for replies
