Rich, good luck in your quest. I am anxious to see how this turns out. You are a lot like me when it comes down to trying different things. Some times they and some times they don't. But at least you can say I tried that once. Like the time I tried to put a home made EFI system and blower on a briggs 18 hp garden tractor. People ridiculed me laughed and said it wouldn't work. I did finally get it to work. If only for a short time before I melted the engine. But I did have fun Riding that mower at 45mph for 10 min before the engine catoed. ;D. I also learned a lot by trial and error.

Bashan, Thanks for posting the pic's for me. I drive home from work at night so I want to be seen as much as possible. They are a little expensive. You are right though, they are well worth it. I'd rather spend it on the lights so maybe I won't be picking pieces of the scooter out of somebody's front grill.

I changed the little license plate light with an led, but it doesn't seem bright enough. I found led lighted tag bolts. Click on image for link I am also thinking about this. Click image for link Roy

Great job, hope you got it fixed for good. If you cut the zip ties at the locking tab they are easier to cut without cutting into the hose. I love zip ties and envy the person that created them. Good luck on your test ride, keep us informed on how it goes.

The plan is to wire the low beams so when I turn them on one starts and the other is timed for 15-20 sec. then it will start. I put the 55w bulbs back in it for now. I will test it again when I get the timing circuit built. I am thinking about a set of these. eshop.ktautopart.com/motorcycle-hid-projector/kt-mt1.htmlRoy

It has separate bulbs for high beams. The new ones in auto have a servo motor that positions the bulb for low or high. I'm going through my old notes on timing circuits. I don't want the timer to activate when I switch from high to low, just when I first turn them on.

I didn't think of a capacitor, It might work. the switch would work though. After they are fully light they only draw about 3 amps. I was thinking about a relay on a timer circuit. Switching from high to low beams shouldn't be a problem If the bulbs are still hot they don't use as many amps to restart.

I just installed 35w hid's on the magnum. They are bright. But I am having a problem with them lighting up. The magnum has two headlights. One or the other will light. I have done a little research and found that a hid ballast will use anywhere from 6-9 amps to start the bulb depending on type and bulb wattage. The particular ones I installed use about 8.33 amp each to start. Trying to start two of them at the same time puts a large draw on the battery.

Well here is the scoop on the lights. I got them installed and tested them. When I turned them on The right side ballast started humming and the light went out. I immediately shut them off and checked all connections. I turned them back on and the right one light up but the left did the same thing. This happened several times with the light that went out being random. I checked the voltage and it was at 12.55v. I have to say the light output seems to be substantially brighter than the 55w halogen bulbs. I got 35w 6000k color temperature bulbs. If I can figure out the shutting off problem I think these lights will be great.

Hid bulbs are a little larger than halogen bulbs. I have to file the lamp projector housings so that the bulb will go in the housing and seat properly. I had to take the plastic housing apart. Then I had to remove the back of the projector housing to do this without getting filing shaving inside the lamp projector.

E.F.I. is a little on the expensive side but well worth it. It will take a long time to recoup your money back by saving at the pump. Last I calculated I was getting around 105mpg. It's got more pep and throttle response is crisper. Tuning is easy as you use software. So far reliability has been good. The only problem is It puts a strain on the charging system. If you start a lot and do short trips the battery tends to die.
