Been sick so just now got to check the scoot. Took the fuse out and then even disconnected the ground and it still ran. So looks like an AC system, correct?
But I got to thinking more, something has to be wrong with the wiring or something. The scoot reads over 5600 km which we know is inaccurate cause 10" wheels and not 12" wheels but still gotta be over 5000 km in reality between June 2014 and end of Aug 2015, right? So it doesn't make sense that if it was an AC CDI on a DC system that it would last that long. BTW, my son has to use my scoot yesterday cause he got a slow leak in a tire. He put his CDI on my scoot and it started fine, but he still had to kick it before it would start. That's the same thing it did to me before the CDI quit completely. Then when he was out for the day, the electric start quit but we can still kick start it. I had no problems starting it until the belt broke. Could that have damaged something? I didn't hear it run after the belt broke but a friend did and they said it started just fine.
After the shop replaced the belt, they said they had trouble getting it to start.I don't know what all normally get disconnected when the CVT is opened but they replaced the belt, contra spring (upgraded) and roller weights cause mine were worn. Logic to me says the problem is related to that work being done since it ran for so long without any trouble prior to the belt breaking. I don't know if they disconnected the battery or anything else like that and they are closed today so I can't call and ask. It was just this morning when I checked to see if it was AC or DC that I realized how many km I have put on it since I bought it last year.
The CDI I ordered has a triple prong plug and a different coil so hoping they get here today. Will check the wires on the gauge cluster if I feel up to opening her up, still not feeling the best in the world.

I never said the scoot has burned out 3 CDI, it has only lost one CDI. It's the fuel sending unit that has been replaced 2x but it didn't work when I got the scoot. The place I bought it tried replacing it and when the new unit didn't fix it, they tried replacing it again. It still didn't work so it has to be in the gauge cluster. Since I don't drive very far it really doesn't matter that it doesn't work, I just check my fuel tank and fill up every week.
The CDI I ordered has not arrived yet, I was just wondering about ordering that other one if it was a better quality CDI.
I can check about it running if the battery is disconnected later this evening. The only working CDI right now is on my son's scoot & he works till 8 pm today.

I still have enough gift balance to afford that one. Would my stock coil work with it? If not, would the coil in the set I ordered work with it?

I think you misunderstood my last post. Using the CDI off my son's scoot, I can start either scoot, with either battery. Using my CDI, neither scoot will start, regardless of which battery I use. I have no multimeter or test light myself and the only person I know with one is out of town for the holiday.

The fuse that originally blew was one of the tube fuses and it blew after some rough surface riding due to weather. I ended up walking my scoot about a block before I could get a hold of anyone to pick me & it up. My friend asked at the parts store about changing from the tube fuse and they sold him a blade fuse holder and fuses which happened to be the "light when blown kind". Course they charge over $5 for a pair of them vs just under $5 for a pack of 10 standard blade fuses. I had a choice to make that caused the fuse to blow - get hit by a car traveling the wrong way in my lane or go off-road with the scoot - I chose off road and the bouncing not only broke the fuse, I lost my low beam filament in my headlight as well.
I had mentioned earlier that I found my stoplight bulb was bad, it was the one that came with the scoot so I figure it was just cheap to only last about 15 months. Fuel gauge has never worked - tank part has been changed twice so has to be a defect in the cluster. I didn't think to check the horn or the turn signals and looking at my headlight, it appears the low beam is again blown. The shops around here say they sell the headlights in multiples because they blow the low beam so easily due to vibrations and rough roads we have around here.
What I do know: 1. With my CDI installed, my scoot will not start. 2. With the CDI off my son's scoot installed, my scoot will start. 3. My scoot won't start with my son's battery unless his CDI is installed as well. 4. My battery works just fine in my son's scoot, if his CDI is installed. 5. The last 4 or 5 times prior to the no-start, I had to basically prime it by kicking it over. It didn't have to start with the kick start but it acted like it didn't have enough power to start unless you kicked it over. I don't know if my wording makes sense. If I kicked it 2X, I could then electric start with no trouble. 6. When the no start happened, it had sat overnight after being ridden for about 30 min when I left my brother's house to come home. Ran fine coming home, then wouldn't start at all the next morning. Had sat about 12 hours at that point

The fuse is one that lights up when blown. A friend bought a pair for me when one blew previously. So pretty obvious the fuse is good. I do not have a multimeter or test light. Battery is good because my son switched it over to his scoot and has been running it for a couple of days. He'd forgot to turn the switch completely off on his scoot and ran his battery down and past couple days he's been on 12 hr shifts. I charged his battery and put it in my scoot and still no start UNTIL I used his CDI. The only thing that made a difference in starting was switching CDI.
The shop only replaced the belt, contra spring & rollers. Didn't have to touch anything outside the CVT.
As for going cheap, I had to order something off Amazon, I have a gift card balance there. Unfortunately, I live on disability and don't have the money to order from a shop or I'd gotten one local. The gift cards were gifts from out of state family to help me keep my scoot running. After paying my basic home bills (rent, etc) I have less than $100 to live off for a month and gotta get things you can't buy with food stamps. Please don't take this as complaining, I just want you to understand what my financial position is and why I went with Amazon. Only reason I even got a scoot was because I need a way around and it was all I could afford. Once I got it though, I feel in love with the freedom to be able to go places without walking miles.

The fuse is good and the wiring has been checked. Fuel gauge has never worked, think it's bad in the cluster cause the place I got it from has replaced the tank sending unit 2x. Turns out the reason I had no brake lights was the bulb went bad, didn't consider that since it worked fine the last I rode it.
Should I order a performance CDI & coil set? Or just the CDI, and which is better - orange or blue or is there a difference?

Saw on another page that had more info. It's secluded there and the guys speculate they were dumped. Good news is they found a home for them.
I added 2 cats to my clutter this year that were dumped and found a home for a third (she was very timid & afraid) with an older couple. Ended up getting 8 cats fixed this year which included the 2 dumped cats, 3 survivors from a litter from a dumped momma last year, & 3 surviving kittens from the 2 girls from last year's litter. Also just paid to have an eye removed on 1 of the kittens because it got ruptured when they were running wild. Took me a year to tame down last year's litter but now everyone is fixed.
I absolutely hate people who abandon animals. Won't take any to the shelter here myself. Over 90% kill rate on cats and within the last few months, several pit bull looking dogs have been put down wrongly. Both times they got out of damaged fences (car hit one lady's fence & tree took out the other) & both times the owners had taken photos of the dogs down & reported them missing & all of them were microchipped. All the dogs were picked up hours after the missing report was made yet the dogs were destroyed without notifying the owners and within a couple of hours of being picked up. NC is supposed to have a mandatory hold time on strays & they didn't even follow that.

139QMB TaoTao ATM50. My CDI has 2 plugs - 4 pin & 2 pin. With the stock CDI, when I turned the key on I had absolutely no power, no lights. Even after making sure battery was fully charged still no power at all to anything. CDI measures 3/4" thick X 1 1/2" wide X 2 5/8" long on the black part.

Mine just had a stock black CDI, didn't know it needed changed. Thanks for the help. Um, how do I know if my scoot is AC or DC. If it helps, the when you turn the key all the lights turn on but they don't work if key is off.

Last week my scooter had the belt, contra spring and rollers replaced. I've previously had a BBK installed in it several months ago. When we picked it up from the shop, it was hard to start and we had to kick it to start. That was Thursday and I've drove it every day since then with the same issue, only starting if I rotate the engine using the kick start first. It didn't need to actually start with the kick, if I understood my brother I was just rotating the engine to get the oil where it need to be. It was only after sitting for several hours that I had this problem.
Anyways, this morning it not only wouldn't start, I had no power at all. Checked my battery and it was low so I charged it but still absolutely no power. Checked my inline fuse and connections - all good. Had a CDI off a parts scooter & tried it but nothing but no idea really if that CDI was good (I'm guessing not now). Once my son got home, I pulled the CDI off his scoot (known good) and tried it. Scoot fired up without any trouble so looks like the CDI is my problem.
So here is my question - Do I need a stronger than stock CDI? I have some funds sitting in Amazon gift cards so if someone could recommend something I'd be grateful. I have no idea what weight rollers are in the scoot now, only that Shannon(mechanic) said he didn't put the stock size in since I had that engine work done. And they only carry Gates belts for these scoots which I know is what peeps here recommend. With the BBK, different rollers and one size stiffer contra spring is there anything else I might need to upgrade?

My credit union offers what they call a cash points account. You can get a Visa debit card to use with it and you can transfer money between your regular bank account and it. However, when you use it, only the money in it can be accessed using the card number. Anytime I buy something online, I transfer just enough into that account to pay for the item, even when using PayPal or Amazon. Great thing is my other accounts are secure and it doesn't cost me anything unless I actually use the account in a given month, then it's just a $1 fee that is used to provide local scholarships. You absolutely cannot use the bank account info for this account to make online payments, only the card # works and you have to enter the CVV off the back as well.

I been MIA myself, just not felt up to much but sleeping lately. Back in late Sept I went to ER & was told I had a kidney infection so got meds. Finished meds & felt better for about 2-3 days, then pain started again. Put up with it cause they told me I might have to suffer a few days (up to a week) with bladder problems cause of the infection. Oct 20, I went back to ER cause I was again in so much pain it gave me a migraine & made me puke. They did a CAT scan & informed me I have an infected kidney stone. So went to Baptist Hospital for a few days & got a stent put in while I take more antibiotics. When I finish them, I gotta go back to hospital to have the stone broken up cause its almost 8mm & they say that's to large to pass. The antibiotics make me real sleepy & nauseous.
My poor scoot gotta be feeling neglected, she ain't moved since Sept 20.
