I'm glad you like my avatar dudes. Everybody likes a little head, especially JR's. Now, you cannot reset a solenoid. It is a simple electronic switch. The current passes through the armature and pulls the large contact closed. There is nothing to reset, it either works or it doesn't. There is no circuitry like a computer to reset. If you get 12v DC to the small actuator wires of the solenoid it should click. When it clicks you should have continuity across the big terminals. If you do the solenoid is OK. Did you look at the link to illustrations I gave you? It explains all of the testing. This is not a complicated procedure, replace the fuse on your multi and do the testing. Or, like Alley says, get a new solenoid, it's a 90% probability that's the problem.

I agree with Alley, but this video says it can be repaired

what are the dangers to bypassing the solenoid?
and to be perfectly clear, "My starter does turn over using the starter button but wont start the bike".

If it turns the engine fast enough and it doesn't start it's something other than the starter. The solenoid is an electronic switch, it closes the circuit from the battery to starter. If the starter engages when you hit the start button the solenoid is fine. Are you getting spark?

Well i haven't checked for spark yet, I guess that is the next thing. I do believe i have a bad solenoid though because if i hit the brake while the key is in the on position the brake light does turn on. I also must note that since i switched from premium to regular the mileage increased but the bike became harder to start. I can however start the bike with a jump starter. so???

OK, I'm confused, if you turn on the ignition switch, pull in the brake, and push the start button.....does the engine turn over?

I think what he means is squeezing the brakes and pushing the start button DOES NOT Operate the Starter ONLY when he jumps the two terminals. Also I think what he is saying is the starter is not turning over fast enough for it to start the motor SO i think his battery is weak as well as having a bad solenoid. My take on what he is saying and how he is explaining it. Alleyoop
