55 this morning and raining a little but I had a jones to ride and I would not be denied. It was more of a mist so no big deal. I came home early at 3 and the rain was gone but MAN was it windy as the front pushed through. I got tossed about some but you know what? I wouldn't have missed it for the world...scha-wheat. By the way, I just passed a service point at 9K. I'm at 9,100 miles and will hit 10K early next year. Rich

32 when I left for work yesterday, there was frost everywhere. I was toasty in my mega jacket. The wind protectors incorporated into the bike for the hands help tremendously. I haven't used heated gloves yet this year. It's been abnormally warm and dry on my days riding to work. This won't last though, it will get colder it's just a matter of time. I'm at 9,300+ miles and still racking them up. With decent weather I'll be at 10K by the end of January and will change the transmission oil. The valves are quiet so I'll leave them and change the engine oil. Not much else to do, took care of the CVT last time. The red line is just south of 10K and I probably push 8K+ a bit too much but it seems to eat it up. It actually seems to thrive in the cold weather. I think I get a little cavalier about the oil level and don't check it enough because it's never been down one bit. I need to stop that right now. I'll need a rear tire at 10K also, I better go ahead and order that.

Last Wednesday, the 7th, I rode into work in the mid twenties with a cloud cover. A front had just passed through so I knew there wouldn't be any significant rain. The tail end of the front was clearing Alabama at 5 when I left for home. Unfortunately it was packing 50 MPH winds as an arctic air mass slammed into the southeast. It was a perilous ride with the bike being blown about by vicious northern wind blasts. I had to ride 45 MPH on a 65 MPH road to keep some stability. Idiots kept looming up behind me and dangerously cutting over at the last second. Plus anybody pulling a trailer would jack knife past me as the wind blew their trailer back and forth. So I'm having trouble controlling the bike as a trailer lurches back and forth beside me...no fun. I thought "it can't get any worse than this". Um...wrong....it started sleeting. It must have been some residual moisture wrapping around with the vortex and the plummeting temperatures froze it. And plummet they did, it was 9 that night. Luckily the roads still had some heat so the sleet didn't stick until after I was home. I have got to watch the forecasts closer, that was dangerous and foolhardy. I took off my helmet and the wife said "what the hell happened? You're white as a ghost." I came pretty close to being one.

That's one thing that some people like about a scooter, in fact one reason I bought mine...a low center of gravity. That low center of gravity turns against you just as soon as wind picks up. Scooters are the worst handling 2 wheel ride I have ever been on. In fact the worst handling motorcycle I ever had is 10 or 12 notches better than the best handling scooter I ever had. On a brand new highway with zero wind and no traffic near me the majesty isn't bad. With out a doubt the best handling bike I have ever had was the 1200cc naked bandit. No windshield to catch wind, tall with a high center of gravity, almost nothing rocked it and you could lean it over so far that your face felt the heat of the blacktop on a left turn and grass hit you on a right.

I rode yesterday, it was in the 20's, not bad at all with the mega jacket. Then the wind (unpredicted) started about 2 PM. At 3 I said close it up and I headed home early. The winds were horrible but at least it was still light. I was exhausted when I got home from horsing the SYM around. I swore I wouldn't do that again but a bad weather report did me in. It's supposed to be 21 in the morning, I'll probably ride, I've did colder than that by 4 degrees. The sun is supposed to be out, you wouldn't believe what a difference that makes. Rich

I live in Vegas, so I don't worry much about the weather. Looks like at least one rider up north feels the same:
