Anybody know how to create a gas line connection into a container to make a gas tank? Old Chopper Guy suggested I use a small aluminum beer keg for my Rat and I think I may have found one. I was over at Tractor Supply looking around but couldn't find squat. What I need to know is what you put into the hole after you drill it, there must be some kind of fitting specifically for that. I would have the outlet welded on which is how just about every tank is done. Alleyoop

Hmmmm beer keg, fittings? Can you say DOT regulations? How bout what if I hit something, somebody and it go boom?! Can you say insurance lialibility? Can you say modified non DOT tank = no insurance? Beer keg designed for beer, = Yum Yum hiccup hiccup! gasoline? Dr. JR excellent points, but putting a valid, legal gas tank inside of something larger might work...

I just replaced the fuel shut off on a 72 Vespa. Its. Goes into the bottom of the tank and is also the filter and fuel hook up. It just mounts into about an inch and a half hole with a gasket and a nut on the inside. I ill try to find the link where I ordered the new one. www.scooterworks.com/Fuel-Valve-no-sediment-bowl-P688C418.aspx

Use a feul bladder inside your keg. Here is a company that makes them. www.bladdertanks.co.nz/Motorbike-Fuel-Tanks.htmlI'm sure you'll find others that do too. Now beer keg and bladder do go together I'm told! ;D Non-drinker so I would not know.

Just make sure it holds enough gas to get across town and back like more than a gallon! john That's one reason I want to do it John, my goofy gravity feed Bashan holds barely a gallon and I think some of that isn't accessible by the shape and tilt of the tank (remember the Chinese engineering thread?). Thanks for the great ideas guys, I had seen the bladders Kiwi and was thinking of putting one inside a metal gas can. The Vespa shut off is a cool idea jhbietz, that would work nicely in a metal can too. The outboard and lawnmower tanks might work too if I could find one. I was trying to avoid welding since I'd have to have it done, but that is probably one of the safer ways. Your ideas suck Dr. Jr .
Actually I'm putting everything on hold with further mods to the Rat because this finally showed up from Harbor Freight:
I had ordered it some time ago and had forgot about it! I want to redo my work area and try to get organized with this thing plus a couple wall bins. This way everything will be visible and hopefully won't get lost out of sight. Then I'm going to move on to the fuel tank and put round trailer tail lights on the Rat. Rich

Bashan, I was also looking for a tank and found this company, they make spun aluminum tanks, they are kinda hard to get in contact with. COYOTE GEAR ALUMINUM TANKS Man you got that right Steven, I sent him a question via e-mail about the cap and it's working on a week now waiting for a response. However, I can say that the ordering is completely safe and easy, and you get your stuff within about ten days. Thanks for turning me on to the guy, a great find. Here's a picture of the tank right out of the box with the VERY high quality brackets. Since the cap didn't have a hole in the top, I asked him in the e-mail if the cap is vented like I ordered. Does anybody know anything about this, that is, can it be a vented cap without a hole?
And here it is just sitting approximately where it's going to go, the two seat posts indicated by the arrows are going bye bye. Rich
