Rich, Really, I do feel for you guys down there. I lived down south and know from experience what it's like driving in winter down there. It always amazed me how the south can have so many drivers that can put a car around a track @ 200mph and yet so many that are not able to handle a car @ 30mph in an inch of snow. M/C And yes, it is a beauty of a home, no matter where it's located.

Thanks M/C, that's nice of you to say. Just an update on the storm and it ties in with your driving comment. The icing started about two hours ago and they said on the news there's so many accidents already that the cops can't get to half of them. It's insane, people knew the storm was coming yet still went out and then drove like idiots once they were on the road. I just don't get it. Rich

This morning the snow fall measures 6" here on the hill with 2-4 more to come, snow today and sleet, freezing rain later in the day. The freezing rain is the bad boy. Trees will come down, power will be off, phones out, not a pretty pictue. A state of emergancy has been declared for the whole state. We live on a hill in the county, not even thinking of driving. Wife willl work from home. My old retired show dog kennel is in shock. Go out in THAT? You HAVE to be kidding!! My Beagles, IGs and terriers are good for about as long as it takes to do their business. My rescue tweenie doxie will drag his equipment in the snow. Rich, for an otherwise quite intelligen man you are indeed crazy!!! 8^)

I don't see what all the complaints are about. Here in sunny upstate New York there's the customary four inches of snow on the ground, it's eighteen degrees and highs in the mid-twenties are predicted for the next two weeks. My Black Lab doesn't understand why we don't want to take her out to play for hours on end. She thinks the weather is perfect.

KZ, Labs are bred for this sort of water and will retrieve game from lakes in it. They have an oily coat that sheds water and agreat temperaments. My Beagles though it was fun but got bored when they realized that there were no rabbits out to chase. The thing that you need to keep in mind is that we dont get this sort of weather down here very often. When we do we are not prepared for it. Are you anywhere near Putnam Valley?

Hey KZ..... Anyway, they closed everything in B'Ham and the surrounding area. The roads are CLOSED and you can get a ticket for driving on them. Also, they said on the news that your insurance probably wouldn't cover if you got in an accident. So I closed up shop and I'm staying home in my shop . There's not a lot of snow but there's about an inch of ice on everything. Luckily we have heat and power. Oh well, guess I'll hit the GY6 cave. Rich

Yes-and No. I'm near Binghamton at the western end of the Catskills. It's very hilly here and we get lake effect snow from both Lake Ontario and Erie. I'm sitting here watching a light snow fall now. My Lab is giving me the "take me out Daddy" face, even though we just came in. I'm so mean. I don't want to run in the snow when it's twenty degrees out.

Just wondering. My family immigrated to this country from England and settled inPutnam Vally a couple of centuries ago. All my critters are crated here in my office, sleeping and avoiding eye contact that might mean that they want to go out. These are sensible southern dogs!!!!! I went out to take some pics and promptly fell on my butt. Obviously the critters are smarter than me!!

I honestly feel sorry for you southern guys. At least those of us who live up here are equipped to deal with it and know how to drive in it.
Wolfie - my cousin and her family live in Gainesville. Her husband is originally from Baltimore and absolutely hates snow. He refused to come here between October and April.

I honestly feel sorry for you southern guys. At least those of us who live up here are equipped to deal with it and know how to drive in it. Sue and I went out for lunch yesterday like we always do on my days off even though this was an unexpected day off. Being from up north, I looked out at about 10:30 AM and didn't see a helluvalotta ice or snow on the road and thought it looked safe. There was no problem getting around, a little patchy ice and some crunchy slush on the bridges......small potatoes from my days in Toledo. However, NOTHING was open! Here's the point of all this, we were driving over Oak Mountain looking for a restaurant and here comes a road scraper behind a sand truck (they don't use salt). The scraper was weaving all over the road because of all the sand on his windshield! Also, he was piling ice up in a zig zag making things much worse. It was really comical, we LOAO. We found a Huddle House open which had recently poisoned me but we were desperate. It actually turned out to be quite good. Rich

OMG Rich - that is kind of desperate. You can't get cabin fever so bad after just a few days. Did you remember to stock up on milk, bread and toilet paper?
Sounds like your road crews need a little practice and some sequence changes.
Up here, we're supposed to get hit today thru tomorrow evening. Barb and I are actually hoping we do. We're supposed to have a 3 hour faculty meeting tomorrow night that could get canceled (Hope! Hope!).
