I would like to find a pdf file with instructions on how i can improve speed on my 50cc chinese scooter that is a reproduction of the sachs dash 50cc im only getting about 35 mph i need it to be at least 45 or 50 to be safe in traffic any positive suggestions would be helpful thank you.

Well you are really asking a lot from a 50cc scoot the best you will find is maybe 40mph unless you really go hard core and mode the engine to its fullest to get into the mid 40s. Getting it go 50mph is unrealistc. The 150ccs scoots will do 50-55 stock, and most will only do 50mph. And as you can see that is 100ccs more than what you have.
There is no PDF file with instructions on how to do what you want, a lot of the 50s may come restricted and you can take the restrictions off to gain a couple mph more top end. Some have a restriction Washer between the Variator Pulleys to keep the belt from climbing. Some have a restriction in the intake to cut down on the amount of air and fuel being sucked into the engine. The mufflers are restricted and that is why they are so quite. So if you need to be doing 45-50 in traffic you do need a 150cc scoot unfortunately.
But there are others who have 50s that will jump in and tell you what you will need to even reach 40mph. Alleyoop

Welcome to Scooter Doc, 918outlaw. Alley's advice is spot on. Even if you are able to successfully mod the engine to run 45 to 50, you will be well into the redline area of rpms and will wipe out the bottom end bearings in a short time. Some people install BBK's up to 80cc to get into this speed range, but it will stress the crank bearings and the speed would be good only for short duration runs in order to not overstress the engine. Your requirements are best met by a 150cc scoot.

Take a look at the "naked" scooter under customs. On the last page I listed all the mods to the engine. It will crude nicely at 40mph and top out with me on it (250#) at 47mph. It took allot of $ in parts and many hours of fine tuning and I can't guarantee the reliability.

There are legit reasons for upgrading a 50cc rather then going to a 150. In South Dakota you don't have to licence anything under 50cc and you don't need a motorcycle endorsement. The big thing is not needing to register the scoot. Its not costing anything when its stored for the winter.

Hi Hello my name is Sean and I recently bought a 50cc scooter from a friend. The scooter runs great. It's also been able to reach sppeds as close to 47-48 mph with no problem. I have been on-line and I see that my particular scooter is only suppose to reach 30 mph I asked her if she had made any adjustments to alter the speed and she said that she bought it that way. My main problem is that I do not have a clue on how to change the oil, how often to change the oil, or even what type of brand to use. I would like to be able do all of the work myself but I am certainly cluess. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

use 10W40 motor oil... 90SAE gear oil..

There are more than just "pro's" in the pro's and cons of 50cc scooters. not having to register usually means you can not insure. because you can not insure does not relieve you of liability if involved in an accident. The theft of unlicensed vehicles is way higher too and recovery is zip on them. as mentioned cost is another con, a 150 goes with the 45mph traffic just fine, add $1000 to the cost of a 50 and it will too. while initial cost between them is only a hundred or so. john

Agreed, "licensed, insured and trained". just put this way....... If you need a 50cc go get one,.... but do not expect that perks of a 150cc will come with it, they don't. a 50 is for down town/residential traffic ....20 25mph. john

Ok, now I have to add my $.02 again. First of all like I said before if you live in the north country you may get 4 good months to ride. It really sucks to pay for tags and insurance for a full year. Secondly its not a thousand dollars. I sell a full upgrade that will get you 45mph for $350.00. Including labor to install. Lastly, where is the hot rodder in your soul? Anyone can just go purchase a 150 but only a true hot rodder will take a 50 and make it FAST. As far as insurance and licensing is concerned. I know us riders with a MC endorsement like to think that make us better but in reality a 50cc is so light and easy to ride that anyone who is a good driver can ride just as safely as we do (with a little additional instruction). And really, how much damage is someone on a light weight 50 going to do to anyone other then themselves? I have owned some of the fastest bikes in the world and currently own 50, 150, and a 250. I will always love the little 50's for what you can do to them ( for minimal cost), there light weight, and the pure FUN of riding them.

The lights on the 50 WIldfire sucked and instead of working it trying for a stator upgrade I decided to go 150. The Rodder in me told me "MISTAKE", but I did it. Fortunately instead of letting someone steal the wildfire for a song I parked it. I now find I get more smiles per mile from the 50 and the 150 is just more expensive to have for no good reason. Next Spring the Wildfire will be on the road and the 150 will be gone.
