Check to see if the seat bucket goes into the groove around the bottom of the seat all the way around. You may have to loosen the seat mounting bolts and move the seat around a little to get the bucket to go into the groove.

The seat has not been on w/ bolts tight since I bought it. It has always just set on the bolts but not been secured since ive had to take the seat off almost every day to inject gas or deal with other issues. Basicly i just line it up and my body weight holds it on. LOL. However I did check to make sure the seat was really lined up as well as it can be, then bolted down before I tried to fix the seat / latch problem. Still no go. Will work on it when it warms up. I want to see if I can get into the area where the hook attacheds to the underside of the seat. I think lowering it would help since its not pushing the latch far enough down to catch.

I was looking at the hook that comes out of the seat. It was suggested that maybe i can get it off and lower it down ( like put washers under it to make it come down further) I looked close and it looks like it goes up and is held into the plastic with little nobs that come out of each side of the hook so I dont see any way to take it out and lengthen it. I can't squeeze it to get it out. The metal is solid. It kinda looks like this that I drew I don't even know if a new latch / lock / or seat would fix it because one may not work with the other still. I guess at this point Im still trying to figure out a way to rig it to work. Or perhaps a lock smith to build something for it but im sure that would be $$$$. Not a huge deal or rush to get it fixed. Ive been keeping it covered, just something im still trying to figure out.

From the pic's you posted it looks like the top side of the latch is hitting on the back side of the lower latch considering the rough edges on the plastic. It also looks like the metal u-shaped part on the seat has never latched because it appears the paint has never been disturbed. To me it indicate's an an allignment problem, not a height problem. I had the problem on my Wildfire way back when it was new and was able to move the lower latch toward the rear of the bike a little and bent the upper latch ever so slightly. Once that was done I then had a problem with the lock mechanism being too tight and twisting not releasing because when the lock moves the cable moves with it. I fixed that with a long plastic tie anchored to the frame and all is good now. Final thought the wildfire seat hinge was tight. I loosened it up just a tad so the seat could move back just a smigen. All this has resulted in no problems even have no water leaks into the compartment. The latch on my JCL is tight but I just sit on it a little further back than normal seating position and that works for it. Hope this helps.

Thanks 89newbie. The pic was taken at night so it looks like paint on the hook but its a silver metal latch. You are right though it is prob an allignement problem and further back would make sense. The set has been on and off so many times its hard to line everything up well with broken side pannel tabs and wear and tear w riding it w the seat just sitting on the bolts but not secured ( ive had the seat off since ive had so many problems ) i say i will secure it as best i can once the scooter is " off probation " runs fine for at least 2 tanks full of gas. it hasnt hit that point yet and have bigger issues now. a nut came off the valve adjust screw and went into the engine area. so once i fix the scooter AGAIN and its off probation ill get back to the seat issue. thanks for your help

maybe the factory installed the latch mechanism on the scooter backwards. on my scoot, the factory put the rubber intake manifold boot on half way, like the boot has to holes, and theres 2 bolt coming up from the engine and the boot goes on the two holes, well the boot was only on 1 of the bolts and was half way blocking the intake hole, how the hell they screwed that up is beyond me. so try taking the latch off ( should be only two 10mm bolts holding it on ) and see if you can flip it around, or try flipping the latch on the seat the other way. i think one or the other might be flipsered up side down. just an idea. did you ever find a 100% waterproof scooter condom yet?

BC that is a great idea Ill have to try it. ya never know that could be the deal. here they dont even speak english at the scooter dealerships and all they can do is oil changes. it has to be sent out for any real mechanical work and thats $$$. I got a $20 cover off ebay. It fits, super think / cheap material but u get what you pay for. however the material looks like it may be more water resistant than others i have seen. its on the scoot now with another cover just over the seat area. we will see how it works when it rains. im happy to at least have a scooter w one solid cover made for it. it looks less ghetto now and less of a pain than 3 different pieces i had to cover it before
tmec also a good idea ill try that too.
cool temec i heard they came with those. ill check into the link.

Nope the oil flows the other way...it is drawn up from the sump through the screen. If the nut was there the screen would stop it going into the pump. The magnet makes no difference That isn't the problem.. the problem is it is floating around in the sump likely waiting to cause damage... The only solution I know is to find the nut... Attachments:
