Hello, I'm new to these forums and to scooters in general. I have recently encountered a problem with my 2011 rocketa 150cc scooter. This is my first scooter and recently purchased it from someone. I can ride the scooter around for anywhere from 1-2 hours and suddenly it will randomly stall. If i try to start it up again it will power on but it will just shut down again the minute i give it gas. If i wait about an hour or two it will work again. Any advice would be appreciative. The only thing i have checked is the spark plug and its fine. Also if i power it on after it just shut off it sometimes dies while its idling. Any advice is welcome thanks again for reading. Tighten the connections to wires on the back of the coil, and make sure the grounds are properly connected. Some little gremlins appear after running for a while because the vibrations of the egine loosen nuts and bolts.
No telling where the problem may be, but if it's minor, and you check and secure everything, chances are you'll find it.
Once you are familiar, especially if you're not successful, you can move on to valve adjustment and carb tuning.
Read the technical posts, all of them.

thanks ill try checking the coil out today then.
I was getting myself familiar with the engine by taking the parts out, and i noticed a bolt was missing that secures the intake box thing, so it was just flopping around all this time. Could this be the cause of it?
I was getting ready for a DIY valve adjustment, but i just wanted to see if anyone had anymore insight before i did.
Thanks ill be awaiting your reply.

I would replace cdi box and coil. Both of these can become bad with the relation to heat. Once they cool off, they start working again.

A DIY valve adjustment would be a really good idea. If the gap is too tight the heat opens them up too much as the stem lengthens and you lose compression until it cools off, hence the one hour wait. Rich

On the airbox make sure the vent hose from the valve cover isn't kinked or pinched or it will cause problems by not allowing crankcase pressure to escape, so replace the bolt.
If it has more than a thousand miles, a valve adjustment is due so carry on with that plan.
Also check all you vac lines for air leaks. You're doing great, we'll have you fixing other peoples scooters in no time.

Check for spark when it dies...many pick-up coils will do what you describe

Ahh sorry for the late reply i was busy today and couldn't get anything done really, my airbox doesnt seem to have any holes or anything that im aware of. I'm going to try to get some work done tomorrow however, and ill keep you posted.
thanks for all the advice so far buys i appreciate it.
Also my engine makes a loud ticking noise after i shut it down, the noise repeats about once a second and last for about a minute... is this normal? I always assumed it was the engine just cooling off.

The ticking could be the muffler cooling down aluminum does that. So next time go around to your muffler and put your ear close to it but Don't touch it, it will be really hot. Alleyoop

I agree with bashan, probably need valves adjusted. You should also check that the fuel tank is venting. I agree with alley, the ticking after you shut down is the popping and ticking when the metal starts to cool. It is possible the engine is running a little hot it might be lean, missing shroud, ect..

what color was the plug if it is white then your are running lean which will cause it to run hotter and cause problems make sure that the airbox hose is connected to the carb and do the valve adjustment

I couldn't buy the feeler gauges since i get out of class when the stores close so it has to wait till tomorrow. However my brother was able to pick up some seafoam stuff that cleans the carb by sucking it in through the vacuum lines. After that it ran smoothly but i couldnt ride it extensively to check if it shut down. I'm still going to preform the valve adjustment. And as for the vapor lock problem, it does seem similar but my bike shuts down immediately not slowly. Almost as if i pulled a vacuum line out and stopped giving it fuel. and im fine with taking it off the center stand and going over bumps, i live in chicago so we are the city of potholes lol
