My 2008 150cc Roketa Scooter has been acting funny the past few days. If I hit about 45 or 50mph after about 10 min of riding, it slows down on it's own and dies. It takes a few minutes before she'll start back up again. It'll turn over, but won't start. Once, I kept on the throttle even tho it was trying to slow down and it POPPED with a backfire and went back up to speed.
I took it to my mechanic and he changed the spark plug, checked the oil (it was fine) and made sure everything else was as it should be. It doesn't happen all the time, but I'm now nervous to ride it for fear that it'll die in the middle of the road. Could this be an ignition coil issue?

It might be but the first thing to get off of the table is the gas tank venting. Loosen your gas cap and go riding, let us know if it acts the same. If that fixes it we'll need to do a couple more things. Rich

Hi, Just had the same exact problem on my brand new Roketa 150cc. The problem on mine turned out to be a painted-over gas vent on the top of the gas tank. I found it after I blew into the lines on each side of the tip-over valve. The side to the carbon filter was open, but the side to the tank was plugged. I followed the hose to the top of the tank, removed it and saw there was no hole in the metal vent elbow. Ran a piece of wire through the paint and problem solved. Annoyingly simple.

Okay, so after a few days of riding with the gas cap loosened, I didn't have any problems whatsoever... until today. It took a few tries to start it up and then as soon as I left the parking lot and got on the street it decelerated and died. This was about 2 minutes after it started. So... I'm not sure what's wrong. I'll check out the gas vent, but this is a new problem, so any other suggestions are welcome!

Try it at night when it is cool...some electrical stuff on scooters doesn't like to sit in the sun in 100 degree weather... but it sounds now like a petcock problem...they run or about 2 minutes using fuel in the carb and then just die..no more gas getting to the carb.
Have you filled the gas tank recently?

extreme excess paint is a common issue with most roketa scoots. as sprocket mentioned, sounds like you either have a petcock issue, or it is your electrical. i would start with the infamous kill switch wires, they might be loose. go over any wire connection with a plug, and clean the pins, and use clear silicon. some people prefer a strong glue but if you have to take it apart for some reason, it makes for a real pain, the silicon is strong enough and wont give you the hassle when reversing procedure. happy scootin'

another idea, it wouldnt cause your scoot to die out, but if its backfiring, it might have an air leak somewhere. i would check your intake manifold for cracks and also check where your exhaust header pipe bolts to the engine to see if its loose. tell us if you have any vaccume lines hooked up to your intake manifold, might help troubleshoot.
