Aprilia is owned by Piaggio and most two strokes are clones of the Minarelli power plant. Vespa used to put two strokes in their scooters and I'm sure this is a variation. I'm of two minds about two strokes as street bikes. The first is that they Rock. Light, responsive, simple and easy to maintain. The second is that they drink fuel like drunken sailors drink booze. Years ago I got the same mileage out of a 1000cc four stroke as I did out of my 500cc two stroke. Secondly, no matter how you slice it a two stroke lubes its piston and rings with diluted oil and gas. It will last a good, long time but it won't last as long as a four stroke. Back in the day if you got 10,000 miles out of an original barrel you were doing well. Since most bikes were replaced every three years it wasn't an issue but there it is. I'm sure better materials and lubricants have improved that but four strokes have come along accordingly.
You won't ever regret buying it though.

Aprilia is a great product. ALso it looks terrific. But is the price worth it? They seem to be pretty expensive.

3200 sticker. 1000 more than a less attractive Zuma...heck Id have to spend at least that much to make a Zuma look good! Its fuel injected and liquid cooled too.

Ya, 2 strokes burn oil.. That is where they got, scooters pollute more than a SUV.. Not thinking all scooters are not 2 strokes.. My first scooter was a 2 stroke. Ran great.. Today I ride a 250cc 4 stroke..

yeah, but you have to replace the piston rings every 6 months if you want to maintain its original horsepower.

There goes the resident know it all again. What qualifications does luke have to make a statement like that? anybody know?
Take an outboard motor, (untill recently all 2 stroke) they go years and years with no repairs out side of waterpumps. The load on an outboard is way more than a scooter motor would ever see. They typically run at either idle or full throttle for some times 20 or 30 years. Mine is a 1978 merc. and still runs fine.

is 38years riding experience not enough with japanese scoots??? if i happened to have owned a chinese scooter i should have said 38 years of FIXING experience... lol thats the good side tho of owning a chinese scoot, you are forced and destined to become mechanically inclined, look at Larry(malevelina's bf) he is now an expert chinese trike mechanic., the only thing that is odd was he fixed a brand new trike.(a brand new trike with problems ,ALREADY??? rapidjim you have a lot of explaining to do, in dealer's point of view,, tell me, how many of your customers calls back for repair? not getting any death threats from them customers YET??? lol
anyway, its the ride that matters.

yeah, but you have to replace the pistin rings every 6 months if you want to maintain its original horsepower. I am sure glade that my 1964 Vespa doesn't have a "pistin" in it or I would owe it 140 sets of pistin rings. Whew that is alot of rings. It would only be 18 sets for the Stella I could probably do that this weekend if I get the parts.Darn it I thought they were running good now I gotta do rings.

Rapid Jim doesn't have to explain anything. If Larry had an Ice Bear dealer around it would all have been taken care of under warranty. Just like explosive Yamahas get taken care of frequently by their dealers.
