I have a 50cc longbo gy6 4t (chinese scooter) I bought it not to long ago and put a new battery in it, because the service man in my area said i didn't have the correct battery, so after installing ive had nothing but wiring issues. Im not sure if its the ground or what. Heck the wiring on these are so backwards. (not having a digital multimeter isn't helping) But i went to get fuel earlier, and once i removed the fuel cap, there was smoke coming from inside my fuel tank that smelt like burnt wires, also the connector from my key switch is shorting out or getting to much power (Smoking at the connector) Is there some way to trouble shoot this? I would rather do it myself so I can learn.

WOW!! I would not ride that thing or start it up. Do you realize the tank can start on fire and blow up in your face or under your seat where ever it is at.
But lets back up a minute what size battery do you have in it right now. The main problem is probably the Regulator/Rectifier is overcharging and burning the wires on you and it may just start on fire. So the first thing you really need to do is get a MULITMETER they are under $10.00 and I would also get a 12V Light Tester a couple of bucks. Alleyoop

I'm sorry but this is priceless. It is the beautiful mind of Alleyoop. He speaks what he freaks!!WOW!! I would not ride that thing or start it up. Do you realize the tank can start on fire and blow up in your face or under your seat where ever it is at. OK, he has just warned the dude his bike might blow up "in his face, under his seat, or where ever it is at!"
So now the jetliner probably isn't going to crash, now we take it down about 9 million decibels!!: Alley: "But lets back up a minute what size battery do you have in it right now?
Alley, you are priceless, everything you said was perfect , it was just perfect Alley, I lov ya bud, you are one of a kind. Rich

I think he ordered the regulator from me when he went to start the engine it had no spark . The cdi he ordered will be at the post office this morning .

John So are you saying it did this with the new R/R or before he got the R/R from you? Anyway, if he smells Burnt something in the gas tank He should unplug the Float Sensor from the harness IMMEDIATELY. And he definitely needs some testing tools if he is going to own a scooter now and in the future. Alleyoop

So I am still charging my Qipai/Lifan scoot everyday and it is getting really annoying as it seems impossible to find the right R/R for my bike. I was doing a little Googling last night and came upon this post on some forum from a few years back. How much credibility should I give it and is it worth it to replace my bulbs if they are indeed 35 watt? The rest of the thread seemed to describe the problem I am having. I learned that Qipai is a subset of Lifan. LET THE GOD's SPEAK!
Update (hopefully the FINAL update) on this thread: After posting the same problem on the American Lifan forum, I got replies from Bruce at Endless Journey Cycles, and "dmoore", who works for American Lifan. They both informed me that the standard 35 watt scooter headlight bulbs are not correct, even though apparently they were being installed at the factory, and specified in Lifan parts lists. Instead, they told me to install 18 watt halogen bulbs, which I got from partsforscooters.com. These 18W bulbs have the same base and configuration as the 35w bulbs. Sure enough, when we put in the 18W bulbs, charging voltage went up to 13.6 volts at the battery, and after a test ride, the battery voltage had increased, rather than decreased. So Sprocket, if you haven't already replace the fat 35W headlight bulbs with LEDs, try the 18W halogens -- they seem to be about as bright as the 35W bulbs, and I think they have solved my charging problem.
The other good news is that American Lifan apparently isn't closing up shop like CPI, Tank, and others -- dmoore assures us that they are rebuilding their parts inventory and planning to stick around to support Lifan owners.

yup halogens are always brighter than regular incandescent. you can replace a higher watt incandescent with a lower watt halogen just as you've seen. what do the bulbs look like in comparison?

So I replaced my battery yesterday and unplugged my headlights connection (daytime only) and my charging issue seems to have been resolved.
With my mulitmeter I got the following readings? +/- terminal, scoot off = 12.7 +/- terminal, scoot on, headlights unplugged = 12.8 +/- terminal, scoot on, headlights plugged in = 12.3
Now all I have to do is figure out why my stator seems to be making this loud annoying noise when it is at idle? Any ideas?
