When I got my scooter, I thought there was no way it was going to make it to 2000 miles. But since I got it two years ago at 1300 miles, I've racked up quite a few miles, with very very little work. I'm up to 2360 miles, and I've had to do very little maintenance. I mean, when I got it out of storage this year, it kicked over on the second kick.
Not to mention, since I got it, I've made a few performance enhancements. I couldn't get above 40 KPH when I first got it, but now I not only get to 70 KPH (the max on my speedo), but I push the needle off the max reading! I wonder it I'm redlining...

my yellow scoot has about 780miles on it now, but the razz has 7260. never been rebuilt from what i can tell ( if you didnt know, its a 2t.) thats quite a few miles for something 2 stroke.

Some one fluent in foreign languages needs to check what some of the people from 2nd world countries get out of gy6 scooters. I have a feeling they treat them similar to a 1949 piper cub, almost every part on it has been replaced at least once and it is running like new today! Look at cuba since castro they had not been able to import many cars so if you went there you might find a 52 chevy in daily use.
I would hate to have to make a guess how many miles some of the worlds gy6 scooters go.....lots more than we see here anyway.

Any one who poo-poo's a 2 stroke and sees a short life has never had an outboard motor. There are many with a thousand hours on them still running. I have 2 merc's from the early 70"s and when I go out I have no fears I would have to paddle back. An out board generally is either ran slow for trolling or wide open to get there, and both situations are far from ideal such as a scooter around town. One thing in their favor is they do not have to deal with dirt and usually do not need an air filter.

Two strokes have a simpler valve system, less to go wrong. Did you know the big diesel electric locomotives are two stroke? They have to get as much energy as possible out of them so they opted for an engine that fires every stroke. Rich

they dont last as long because of the way they are lubricated. usually its rings that go first. but dont tell the razz that. ive got a weedwhacker from 1997 that i picked from the trash 5 years ago. still runs great. only have changed spark plugs and cleaned the carb. its a McCullough.

Bashan you are correct Locomotives are two stroke but they do have exhaust valves. They get air into engine from athe air boxes on the side.

All my boat motors where also water cooled which makes a huge difference. And like the weed wacker there's only two throttle settings.

I am riding a 4 stroke 49cc 139qmb with 6000 miles on it and it still runs great, do your scheduled maintenance on it and take care of it and it will last a long time. I sold one 4 years ago with over 10,000 miles on it and it was still running strong.

Decades ago my buddy and I bought two stroke road bikes. Me a Kawasaki H-1 500, him a Yamaha RD 350. We both reached 10,000 miles at the same time when his lost zip, got hard starting and fouled plugs. We pulled it apart and his cylinders were shaped like an hourglass. Ring end gap was way over tolerance. He had them re-bored, new pistons and rings and he was back in business. I had my Kawasaki for 30,000 miles and when we checked the pistons and rings at 15,000 they were within the specs for brand new. The difference? I rode it like I had to pay for repairs, he rode it like he stole it.

I had a Lance Charming 50cc three years ago and it would rip up to 40 mph on its speedometer easily. It sounded like it was in pain at that speed. I had pulled the restrictor plate out of the airbox. If it wasn't at redline at that speed it should have been. I would ride it no higher than 35 indicated just because of the sound.

After I go about a half an inch off my max reading (past the 70 KPH mark), I can feel my front tire do a weird vibration, so I never usually push it further than that. I have no issues keeping up with traffic, though. I have an odd sound that comes from mine around 55-60 KPH on the speedometer, it sounds like a shallow slicing sound, and then it goes away after I get past 60.

The weird vibration might be a slight imbalance in the tire. Don't sweat it. The odd noise is a result of the way a speedometer operates. There's a magnetic dohicky that swirls past a piece of metal and moves the needle. In very cold weather you should hear the noises Rocket makes in its speedometer. The odometer is geared to the cable, that's why you can lose your speedometer but still have the odometer spinning. I had two speedometers go to heck on my Kawasaki because of cold riding. That's why I don't do it unless it's a necessity.
