Okay today I used couple of hours to undress my cfmoto scooter all the way from gas tank to behind. And I noticed that better do PDI later than never. This is new scooter to me and I believe last owner didn't do any kind of PDI.
I checked all electric connectors and sprayed some contact protect spray to them. All looked good.
I changed led break lights. Not blinkers yet, because I don't have amber led lights yet.
Then I found possible electric problem. One wire was worn so that you can see the copperwires. I used some electric tape to fix that. And put a lot of zip ties to hold them better.
Then I checked intake manifold. NICE! Not working long anymore.
Then I started to look are all of those hoses really necessary? All the vacuum, breather and other hoses. I think there is just too much hoses which are unnecessary.
Why oil breather hose have to go to air filter box?
Should it lubricate air filter? maybe if filter is foam, but in cfmoto it is paper filter. It should be just fine if the breather hose goes just back to engine.
So I did this.
Then I started to watch that air filter box better.
What the heck!!! What is that little box in the front of the air filter box?
That box where just cut breather hose went. Damn it looks stupid or am I stupid and just don't get it
Take a look
That cut breather hose looks like it is going into that box. But it is not. It goes into a different box behind this box with foam. Simply this foamed box is unusable
And bonus. There is variator shift (or what do you call it) oil breather hose. Originally it went to air filter box. There was independent hole for it. That hole went nowhere
It was just holder for that hose. Which did not breath good when hose were in that hole.
Chinese
What would we do without them
After that I checked vacuum hoses. Only one needed vacuum hose goes to carb. And it is cut and connected with Y-connector and other hose goes to vacuum fuel pump. I think I will order that Mr. Gasket 42s electric fuel pump and remove those vacuum hoses. That electric pump was good? I remember to read something good about it used on scooter...
And because of air filter is also paper air filter (not foam) it would be almost the same as high flow air filter. I think I will give it a try with high flow air filter like this
I will connect it directly to carburator or to that snorkel. Directly to carburator might give too hot air to engine with gas. Maybe I test first without snorkel.
I believe one size 50mm high flow air filter will fit to both of them.
Take a look at this picture and compare it with that other.
How much more space you get for future.
Remove all unnecessary breather hoses and vacuum lines. Replace vacuum fuel pump with electric one and you got really simple and easy scooter engine. And you got easy and full access to your spark plug without removing any plastic. And much easier way to change your carb settings using that little screw.
Just figure out that situation that you got a problem in the middle of nowhere and you immediately got space to do some research without removing all the plastic
If any of you have tried high flow air filter. It would be nice to hear your experience.I will give it a try and let you know. If my mpg will grow up a lot, then I will put back that original air filter.
Sorry about my bad English. It is my third language ;D
btw I ordered new CDI-box just in case and new intake manifold and new carburetor diaphragm. I did not check old one yet. But here in Finland it is hard to get those parts. So it's better to order them before they break
