OK, took off the top end and I think I found my problem!! Glad I caught this now before it came off in the engine! Took a bunch of pics, so this is a link to the album. That way I don't have to re-size the pics. What causes this? There is about 1500 miles on this top end. The pic of the head/combustion chamber is just for reference. I think it looks fine. I will clean it up a little though before I put it back on. s699.photobucket.com/albums/vv353/ventoscoot/top%20end%20problems/

I'm gonna take the whole top end off tonight and start inspecting I think. The sooner ai figure it out, the sooner I can get parts if I need them.

Here is a different version. I realized after watching the other one, I was moving the camera around a LOT. This one starts with the camera above the engine, on the side by the variator, and on the side by the flywheel. Hopw this helps.
I used the stethoscope and it seems the sound is comming from the area below the starter or in a line side to side in that area. It also seems the sound does get faster with the RPM's and as I stated, seems to start at about 2500 PRM's or so.

Here is the sound. Checked the flywheel and the tensioner and a looks OK. The sound does not kick in until close to 2500 RPM or so, maybe a little higher.

no metal shavings in the oil. I poured it through a fine screen (don't tell the wife it was from the kitchen) and at teh same time had a magnet in the stream. Oil looked completely normal for about 600 miles or so. I will go fire it up in a minute to check the sound.

loud metalic clacking sound. NOT valves. Hope it's not the main bearing. drainied oil and refilled, same sound. drained gear oil, clearly has been leaking slowly because not enough came out. then stripped out the drain plug threads when I put it back in. Trip to Harbor Freight for helicoil coming up. The sound seems like it is coming from the engine, not the top end. Also seems to be coming from teh left side if you are facing forward and toward the bottom. It almost sounds like something is loose and rattling. The sound is not there when it is idling. Pulled the valve cover, set to TDC and valves were fine. Also pulled off the CVT cover to see if there was anything going there, but did not see anything wrong there. Let me know what to check. Rode it last, on Friday night, rode just fine, did not seem to have any problems. I did notice the sound riding home, but thought it was my exhaust tip rattling. Got to get this fixed before Friday, got a three day Rally!!

Is it strong enough to lean on the back rest as a driver? This looks like a very viable option for me.

I get asked about mileage all the time. I once had a guy in a jacked up Bronco (32 inch tires) stop and aske me about my mileage while I was filling up. I told him it was 65-80 depending on how hard I ride. He said he gets 10mpg. I also get asked about my extra lighting at night, how comfortable it is to ride, my road pegs, and how often/how much mileage I ride.

OK, so what is the "practical" difference between 11 gram rollers and 11 gram sliders? I am running an 842 belt right now and it goes as high on the vari as I am comfortable with. I am running a mix that is the total equivalent of 11g rollers and am consideriing the sliders. I am going to order them from ScrappyDog and was thinking either 10g sliders or 11g ones, I need about 500 RPM's (or so) more on the top end and am looking for the best option.

So does that swivle up and back so you can lift the seat? I have been wanting to make a back rest/sissy bar, but the whole mounting issue has been giving me fits.

OK, I mentioned this last night to a couple of people, and seemed like the idea got a good reception. Who would be up for a ride to Vegas next spring? I am thinking late April, early May or so. Here is the route: maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Salt+Lake+City,+UT&daddr=Las+Vegas,+NV&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&dirflg=h&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=34.724817,64.6875&ie=UTF8&z=6 Antisocial S.C. Utah would sponsor and provide a chase van with tools, etc. More detalis to follow based on interest.
