AlleyOoop, I did not realize ethanol was being placed in gasoline. That it could damage engines until this year. Rode my 250 scooter 3.5 years not knowing. I use Seafoam today. I started it alot during winter and that maybe why it is still running.. But only noticed a few hoses ruined in this time. Not to bad, for never adding nothing to ethanol gas..

I heard Iran may start stopping the flow of oil, in response to our sanctions over the nuke policy.. This could raise the price of oil again.. $4, $5, AND $6 per gallon.

New Scooter

My wife has a friend, whoms son has a brand new scooter he is selling. He won it in a drawing.. He already has two motorcycle. I will post the type and the amount he wants for it. But I will buy it if he lets me make payments. Have two scooters to ride.. See, if one scooter needs repairs, well that would give me a backup ride until I get it fixed.. My Bali scooter has not broke down often, but had to replace starter twice, replaced tires once, replace waterpump once, ect.. So having to wait 7 to 10 days to replace a part- well could ride while waiting on parts. Attachments:

In most cases these products were supposed to be under warranty, but the warranties were voided because of improper gasoline or gasoline mix that caused the damages. According to many manufacturing experts, the main problem is now being referred to as an ethanol issue and is directly related to the gasoline companies using ethanol to literally thin down our gasoline for more profits. As of January 2009 there are no small engines, including motorcycles, ATVs, or scooters that will operate efficiently on the gasoline/ethanol mixture we are getting at the pumps without major internal engine damages that we will have to pay for. Major manufacturers have started releasing lists of some of the symptoms and problems of ethanol contamination, including poor performance, overheating, foul smell when operating, permanent internal engine damages and a host of other problems that will no longer be covered under warranty regardless of how new the product is. Both small engines and most of the automobiles on the road today are designed for unleaded gasoline only, and not ethanol. The problems we are experiencing are not our fault but lie squarely with the gasoline companies. Sounding bad, but it still started on one turnover of the engine, so I knew it was not a valve adjustment.. I added half a tank of 91 octane, which stopped the pinging. I have been riding for 4 years- my scooter is in good condition- always replacing worn parts and doing little things to it. Attachments:

Now I got to reading articles on ethanol.. They claims ethanol dries out rubber and plastic parts. Now I was thinking, I had to replace a vacuum hose, not to long ago. It was soft rubber when I placed it on the scooter, last year. Now is was hard like plastic and this puzzled me. It kept coming off the vacuum line on carb. so I replaced it. Well, this is what occures with ethanol too. We all been adding 90% gasoline and 10% ethanol to our scooters. I been thinking of another parts.. The EGR line and canister melted this past summer. I assumed it must have caught fire, but after reading ethanol articles, well the rubber and plastic could have been melted these parts.. It is known to melt plastic and rubber parts. I switched to 91 octane, because in Missouri, 91 octane is ethanol free gasoline. Attachments:

I have had others tell me to remove the canister and plug up the emissions system. That it would not hurt it, but I did not do that.. The canister looked as if it had caught fire on my Bali 250.. I could not find the part no where on the Roketa site, so I bought a simular type filter system at Oriely Auto Parts Store. The canister is really a filter system that connected to the EGR that connects to muffler. But mine has run fine and not got hot..
Now I have been doing some thinking on scooters in general. The 89 octane I used for nearly a year, might have caused the canister to catch fire or melt. 89 octane sparks easier than 90 octane gas. Another thought on octane is 91 octane is 100% pure gasoline and 87,89, and 90 octane has 10% ethanol in it. Ethanol is bad new for boats, small engines and destroys the carburators. It dries out rubber parts such as hoses, rubber gaskets, ect.. I heard China does not mix gas and ethanol. I replaces a vacuum hose a year ago. The hose became hard in one year- suspect is ethanol.. Ethanol dries out rubber and makes it hard and brittle. It also seperates and causes one to loose octane.

Now people, the old oil in your engine, is radioactive and can harm the enviroment for 5,000 years if escapes.. LOL.. Just joking... But seriously, I try to do the correct things with the old oil.. I spill in sometimes on concrete and take kitty liter to clean it up.. But I give it to the gas station..

Octane?
by: scooter12 - Dec 23, 2011 17:18:09 GMT -6

Ya, I generally use 89 octane..but my scooter sounds a bit rougher than usual.. Starts up fine, but rougher sounding and pinging.. I went ahead and fillup up half a tank with 91 octane gas. The ping noise is now gone. This would raise the octane level and mixing the gas with 100% gasoline would add a higher percentage of gasoline to the ethanol.
I know you live in SC... I was in SC in Columbia watching my son graduate from the army.. Pretty warm there compared to Missouri. Now my scooter slowly stopped pinging because the more powerful gas took a bit to get to the carb..

Octane?
by: scooter12 - Dec 22, 2011 15:37:34 GMT -6

I always hear, China uses a cheaper grade steel.. This maybe true.. If so, well is the rubber parts the sameway.. I don't actually know this. Just information others have suggested about Chinese scooters. Like on Scootdawg Forum, they claim to use Seafoam as a gas additive to stop ethanol from seperating.. Claim it cleans ones gas lines from corrosive ethanol.. I hear, don't add a octane booster because it don't work..
Ethanol evidently will cause a engine to knock and ping, if gets cooler. Missouri gets 20 below zero at times. Chilly. Missouri adds 10% ethanol to gasoline that is 87, 89, and 90 octane gas. They don't add nothing to 91 octane gas- so it is 100% petro gasoline. It is a bit more costly, because of this. So I posed the question in the winter time, is it better to use 91 octane gasoline because it lacks ethanol which could make the engine knock and or ping if live in a area that gets extremely cold? By getting cooler, ethanol looses some octane.
