This 150cc scoot has a loud, rattly, mechanical sound at high rpm (highway speed ~ 45mph). We thought it was valve train noise. I checked and adjusted the valves; the exhaust was tight. That didn't eliminate the noise. Could it be an exhaust gasket leak?
The scooter has 3,049 miles.

I wonder how much more this will cost than my Dad's Chinese electric bicycle that can go just as far and just as fast.

I ordered my sliders and tires today. I should have this scooter on the road soon.

YAY! The scooter runs, but I am a doofus. I didn't properly clean the float valve.

Vacuum hose routing looks correct. Looks like I'll have to pull the carb again.

I probably did something some of the ScooterDocs don't like - I started it with starting fluid, but the engine would not continue to run on the gasoline. I need to double check my vacuum hose routing.

The carb is now clean. It was indeed plugged. Now how do I get gas back in the bowl? I've got good, clean gas coming out of the vacuum pump, I've got spark at the spark plug, but it won't fire.
Also, the starter sounds iffy; it doesn't like to run more than a couple of turns before it sounds awful rattly.

I will be working on this scooter for a guy who bought it used from his neighbor. It has 122km on the odometer. He rode it sporadically last summer and when it quit running he parked it. Finally, he wants it running again. The battery has been drained from sitting. I can tell it wasn't properly inspected by all of the loose pieces here and there. When I used the kick starter it tried to run, but wouldn't. I am thinking the valves are too tight and need adjustment. What do ya'll think? While I'm at it I'll give the scooter a good once over and change the fluids. www.eurospeedchina.com/world_015.htm

What ever the reason selling prices are where they are, any given item is only worth what someone will pay. If you can find someone to pay your price, that's great, but you may be waiting a while.

Well folks, she runs!
In addition to the melted fuse holder I had a faulty starter relay and there was no ground connected to the engine.
Now I just need to tune the carb, change some fluids, and check out the variator.
Thanks for your support.

I fixed the carb issue. The problem was the scooter was designed for a carb that has the cable pull on the left side. When I put this carb, with the right side throttle pull, I had to rout the cable past the carb, then back forward. This made the throttle cable a tad too short (even after adjustment). So, I modified the bracket that the cable bolts to and gained half an inch. Now the cable works. An engine with a carb with left side pullDSCN4756-EDIT by mjkeogh303, on Flickr My right side pull

I ran into another problem. The carb the seller provided me has the throttle cable on the wrong side. To make it work, I need to fab a new throttle cable bracket to mount on the carb.

Thanks again, ce.
I do have another hose that connects to the airbox, so that's good.
I am going to do that search now.
