No idea how many miles are on it. The previous owner had it for a year without changing the belt. The scooter has 25,000 miles.

There is a reason not many cars have CVTs - always hunting for the right gear.

I would love to ride that thing, but the article says it is not coming to America.

Belt sounds plausible. I haven't had a chance to look inside. I hope to get to it this weekend.

When I first heard the sound, I was accelerating out of a turn and I thought it was the kickstand hitting the ground. Later, when accelerating hard away from a stop light, while traveling straight ahead, I heard the sound again.
I'll check out the variator. If I see something out of the ordinary, I'll go ahead upgrade to Dr. Pulley sliders while I am in there.

My Helix makes an odd sound after I accelerate hard. If I do a full-acceleration and let go of the throttle I hear a deep throated chirp. Could this be a variator sound?

I wonder about the extra weight as compared to regular paint.
I was able to get a nice finish on my Helix with Duplicolor Perfect Match spray paint, a few coats of clear gloss laquer, wet sanding with 1000 grit, polishing compound, and some wax. That is many more steps, but is close to a factory finish.

That is usually the case.
On the opposite end of the scale, when I was coming out of Lowe's, an older couple thought my Helix was "a neat thing." With age, comes wisdom, eh?

I don't know what it is like in other parts of America, but my town, Rock Hill, South Carolina is full of, for lack of a better word, rednecks. About once a day when I ride, some punk kid (or adult even) yells something incomprehensible in my direction. We scooterists get little respect. In my area I am sure that is partly due to the fact that a majority of scooters are "liquor cycles".

I think the Integra is blurring the definition of a scooter. IMO, it is closer to an automatic motorcycle. I really want to try out a Honda NC700X with the autoshift. They go for a little over $8,000

I have had two Chinese scooters. First was a Znen 150cc with the generic sport body work, and a Roketa MC54B250 with the Lihai Yamaha cloned 257cc.
My biggest complaint with the Chinese scooters is the cheap, plastic body panels. If you ever need to remove and re-install them, count on breaking off mounting tabs.
I bought the 150cc new for $1200 at my local scooter shop. I sold it a little more than a year later. The time was right, and I got a good offer. Later I bought the roketa used, not running for $300. I put $300 worth of parts and tires on it. It was a great scooter for me. What I didn't like about it was the harsh ride and crude engine. It just never ran as smoothly as it should. It was not near as refined as my 25,000 mile, Honda Helix which replaced the Roketa for $900.
I'll certainly consider another small, Chinese scooter to play with again.

Small scooters are different but the over 250 ones are really not very economical compared to a motor cycle. I just can't imagine why some one would spend $10k on some of the high end "scooters". I hear what you are saying. I pretty much lucked into a cheap Helix. I was looking at various, old-school standard, motorcycles. I like the ease of scooter riding and some of the built-in storage capabilities. I also like a manual shift car, but a twist-n-go two-wheeler. That being said, I'll take an Aprilia Mana 850GT or a Honda NC700X.

I've been seeing some good deals on Craig's List lately. There is a Silver Wing near Macon, GA for $1500 in rough shape and Reflexes can often be found cheap.

Nice lookin' scoot. I want that top case. I couldn't not find one for sale anywhere that didn't cost an arm and a leg. I ordered a smaller one that can just hold my open face helmet.
