I finally cracked down and installed LED turn signals on my bike. I was fed up with regular bulbs blowing up. I had to break off the reflectors in my inner turn signal assembly, and I ended up breaking one of the tabs for my front end (leading to a bit of dashboard wobble), but the repair/replacement went well. Here's what everything looks like! Off Off Close Up On (Blindingly bright from head on) What do ya think?

Spark plug holes in the head do not get stripped all by themselves, must of been a elf sneaked in over night and cranked on the plug. Man the stuff you hear on the forums just unbelievable, IF THE PLUG DON'T FIT YOU GOT TO FIX IT: Alleyoop Well then I better find the spark plug stripping elf and give him a whoopin', because I didn't strip this thing. Maybe my brother did it when I wasn't looking...

To be perfectly honest, I have ZERO idea on how the spark plug hole got stripped. The spark plug was put back into place firmly and has not been removed in almost two years. No HUMAN force could have stripped it. I'm thinking that it may have loosened up over time and eventually the compression from the cylinder pushed the spark plug out against the threads and stripped out the top threads, leading to low compression.

Bikes compression came back bad at 90 PSI. I'm going to run a test against my bike to make sure the tester isn't malfunctioning, because that bike shouldn't run, right?
Time for a top end rebuild!
Maybe not..I went to go screw the spark plug in, and it turns out that the spark plug hole is stripped! That would cause low compression..

I'll get that. But here's what I've checked so far
CVT Belt: Looks okay, not too much wear, only a small chunk out of it, probably a manufacturing defect.
CVT/Clutch: Belt rides and shifts fine when on center stand, does not shift correctly when my brother is on it SOMETIMES. It's a ghost problem and can go away at any time and come back five minutes later.
Roller weights: Look fine, no unusual wear.
Carb: Cleaned 2x and tuned for slightly rich air fuel ratio. Bike idles fines and starts good.
Intake manifold: Looks great, no cracks.
Valves: Adjusted, sound great, bike starts good, no unusual wear on valve rockers or valves.
Transmission Fluid: Changed and filled.
Oil: No change since last season, is pitch black and has only had oil added since the bike started to burn oil.
Haven't checked:
Piston & Rings: Will probably never check these. My brother will get rid of this bike before he lets me tear it down.
I'll get a video of him on it and hopefully it will do it today.
Update: Spark plug looks good, but compression is almost unrunnable. Compression is coming back at 90 PSI.

As of right now I do not believe that it is the cvt. There are deeper troubles with this engine. Time for compression test and possibly a full rebuild of the motor.

You know, come to actually ride it today after the carb cleaning and the valve adjustment and the perfect air fuel ratio..I don't think it's ever run this good in its life. I mean it idles so smoothly. Purrs like a kitten. It's a tad bit faster than before. And sometimes it gives a bit of a sputter when taking off (too lean still?) but it gets right up to speed. Ah, the joys of maintenance.

I think where I screwed up last time was that I was too lazy to do TDC by directly rotating the flywheel. Last time I adjusted, I just used the kickstarter until it was TDC, which was probably a bad idea. Note to self, always rotate the engine yourself!!

After I cleaned my carb yesterday and everything was working great, I failed to realize that my carb gasket was not correctly in place AGAIN. So while I was asleep, I guess the gas just leaked out of the carb. And seeing how I have a bad petcock, the gas just kept flowing. I woke up this morning with close to a full gallon of gas gone from my tank and a VERY gassy garage. Jeez! I redid the carb and hopefully the leak is gone..but either way, I got my valve adjustments done shortly after that, and let me tell you I must have screwed up the first time I did it, because they were noisy and I could fit a .007 in both exhaust and intake...! They're back to being quiet now though. So no more noise and no more carb leak. Phew. I smell like gasoline and brake cleaner. To the shower!

So here's the deal. I went ahead and I just cleaned the carb jets and inside of the carb. The pilot jet was SLIGHTLY clogged. After a thorough cleaning, my idle screw is now fully functional. When I put my carb back on I couldn't get my airbox back on so it was running VERY lean and sounded like a dying horse (I hate the noise of the carb drawing in air). I got the airbox back on all the way and clamped on, and it was running..lean...what the...okay, so basically I adjusted the air fuel ratio screw and now I'm at an almost perfect ratio. I'm purposely running slightly rich, so now my bike idles great, and doesn't try to die out on me. Yeah!

It seems like it shifts just fine when it's on it's center stand, but as soon as my brother actually gets ON it with his full weight on it, it sounds like it gets stuck in a very low gear and will not upshift (bike stays revving low like going up hill and stays at a very low speed). I have a feeling we might need to look elsewhere for this problem. Maybe the carb? We'll get it out and clean it and see if it makes much of a difference.

Okay, maybe the jet isn't THAT big. Maybe it was a 78. All I know is that my brother gave it too me as a size up from the stock jet! The scooter is not bogging when I give it throttle, it just almost dies if I give it a quick twist, which means it's running slightly rich. And I don't mean the air fuel screw. If I close the air fuel screw all the way the motor does not die. I'm saying that if I take my idle adjustment screw out so that the carb throttle is completely closed, the bike still idles. The air fuel ratio screw simply does nothing for me, and the idle adjustment screw won't let me kill it.
