^^^ +1 to that! I wear full face exclusively. I got my bell rung real good falling off a skateboard w/ no helmet in high school. Hate to see what'd happen falling off a bike.

Smorkle, you are doing it wrong. Your '05 stats say moto accident fatalities account for more than 10% of all vehicle fatalities (btw, 47% were >40 years old), yet you failed to note that motos only represented around 2.5% of all vehicles. Also, depending on what year you look at, you are 30 to 40 times more likely to die if you crash on a moto compared to if you crash in a car. Cars are way safer, and therefore less fun! ;D

@ robb,
You're right. That's a good suggestion on how find gearing to suit more situations. My suggestion was based on flat ground with no headwinnd and no extra chilidog for lunch. It's always a tradeoff when you have to deal with things like hills. Like you basically said, gearing to tackle hills is not ideal for reaching max speed on the flats. The math doesn't break down, tho. There are just more factors to consider. Also, the OP never told us what rpm he is presently turning at the target 55, so we don't know wether he actually needs to go taller.

It shouldn't come as a suprise to u guys that to go faster, it requires more power. All you can do is try to gear for the engine to pull top speed at peak power rpm. These bikes put out around 9hp max, probably around 8 at the wheel. The max speed you can hope for is probably gonna be way shy of a true 65mph with stock output regardless of gearing. Gear it much taller, and you'll never reach peak horsepower. You'll lose top speed AND acceleration. Simple physics.

Jake, But if you go 3 More Teeth on the small gear and 3 Less Teeth on the big gear it should pick up from 11-14mph. If you go 2 More on the small gear and 2 Less on the big gear it is about 8mph gain. Alleyoop Keep in mind this is based on gearing, not power. You won't actually pick up top end. (unless you're going down hill ;D)

Dunno if i'd get a chinese motorcycle. Unless they are up to japanese standards, i'd stay away unless you plan to use it strictly for around town, but then u might as well just get a scooter. 250s are barely powerful enough for the freeway and lack the convenience of storage like a scooter.

don't know why the big 3 don't look at remaking one of the 350-360 twins, possibly even a tad bigger. I suppose it would hurt them financially as if it could be produced and sold for a whole lot less than them damn crusiers. few who buy that sort of thing would be in the market for a new bike for a long time. A improved 650 twin such as yamaha had in the 70's would be nice too. bike with conventional seating are just a thing of the past for the most part. john If you like middle weight twins there's Suzuki's Gladius and Vstrom and Kawasaki's Versys and ER6N. All have an upright seating position. The styling may take some getting used to. IMO, all of them are a bit underpowered for freeway duty, tho. It seems as much as we'd like a classic twin, they don't seem to sell well when the manufaturers build them. Remember the Kawi W650? There is a bike that's being made right now that looks the part, but they want an arm and a leg for the thing and it's a bit of a dog anyways....

Just run it when it's clear. You can treat it as a stop sign because the signal was "malfunctioning".

wow, you really did a number on that! I thought you spilled on glossy plastic. The meguires won't help you there and it leaves a wax glaze so you'd have to remove that if you were gonna paint. I'd just scrub it real good and then paint it like u were talking about in the first place.

If they are like plain old telescoping forks, you can vary the oil level and the preload spacer to change preload and damping can be altered by using different viscosity("weight") fork oil.
The rears are only spring preload adjustable. The internal pressure is in there to reduce cavitation and has little to no effect on preload or ride height. So even if you could let some out, it would probably not give you the results you're looking for.
What are you looking to do?

but with winter coming isn't the iridium plug made more for warmer climates? I don't see how? The iridium plug burns hotter than a regular plug. It "burns hotter"? Not really.
