I just got the Coil in the mail. I attached it, BLUE to Stator, Black to Ground, NOTHING...
I was afraid of this... BUT You live and you learn!
I need suggestions for the best possible replacement, ROB has already shown me a replacement original which looks like my best option so far...

I hope not Alley, I think the 79' Motobecane I was looking at DID have a TCI, BUT I THINK this 82' has a regular Ignition Coil. I just hope that the coil I purchased will work, as of right now after ROB's pointing out, the coil I bought probably has a coil and CDI side by side in the same box.
So I am expecting it to be to much resistance on the circuit to give me a spark... If it does not work, I will order a regular ONE TERMINAL, IGNITION COIL, for a 50cc
I am really starting to think that the best option was to actually buy a BRAND NEW 2 stroke engine kit for motorized bike for 169.99. Out fit the pulley to fit, and mount it on the moped...lol

Kinda ya, the original one looks round, to bolt holes, that ground it, and serve as a ground for the circuit. One terminal, with a Y, one to kilswitch, one to stator/magneto, and the plug wire. Dang, I was hoping that this was as plain as it got, but if the CDI, is WITH the coil, in the same box... I might be in trouble, Like your saying... Now that I notice this, What do you think about a regular 12Volt coil for an older car? "IF" I am hearing you right, on the 82 motobecane, the stator points will give the timing and power signal, I just need to have a way to transfer to the spark plug VIA Plane Jane Coil.. Right? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! It hasn't even got here yet and Im in trouble!.... ((

THANK YOU ROB! So for my situation, would you say that this CDI for a 2 stroke(50-80cc) Motorized bike kit, www.bikeberry.com/engine-kit-parts/electrical/cdi-electron-ignition-coil.htmlShould work on this: 1982 Motobecane 2 Stroke 50cc(COIL HAS ONE INPUT TERMINAL WITH A "Y" IN THE WIRE, ONE GOING TO KILLSWITCH, OTHER TO MAGNETO/STATOR/INPUT) AND THE SPARK PLUG WIRE OF COURSE. I have been doing some research on Ignition Coils, since I am getting ready to replace one on an older 2 STROKE ENGINE.
What I have read has basically told me that, a 2 STROKE ENGINE, with NO CDI BOX, gets the firing points from the MAGNETO. So every time the magneto turns past the pick-up, it sends the signal to the coil box.
So if I am correct, a 2 Stroke(50cc) Engine, can use ANY Coil box designed for a 50cc Engine.
That being said(IF ITS CORRECT)(AND FOR MY SITUATION) I PLUG THE *BLUE* WIRE(from stator, magneto etc) INTO MAGNETO, GROUND THE OTHER WIRE*BLACK* WIRE TO THE ENGINE MOUNT IT, AND PLUG IN THE SPARK PLUG.
I figured since I could not find MUCH info on coils, it was a good subject to discuss. I know that the modern everyday 4 STROKE scoot, NOW has a CDI box, plus coil. Which is a very different situation. My particular situation, is an OLDER(82) 2 Stroke. ARE THE NEWER 2 STROKES NOW ON A CDI+COIL SETUP?? THANKS GUYS!

LOL I hadn't looked at this post in a while! I LOVE the enthusiasm! Ya, I have decided that even with it running a 250WATT AMP for my 5x7 Speakers, That it would be TO MUCH for the Stock Stator.
It was sure nice to think about a WARM scoot on a COLD DAY though! hahaha I was even thinking a Blower Motor at Oriellys Auto,(22.99) and taking the heat off the engine IF it was enough to matter...

Thanks Alot Guys! I have found that repair manual too, its a GREAT HELP!
I have noticed that the only wires going to the magneto, From the coil, is ONE GREY Wire. The coil that I purchased has 3 wires total, SPARK PLUG WIRE, BLUE WIRE(FROM MAGNETO) BLACK WIRE(GROUND). I know this because I have had a Motorized Bike Engine, WITH this coil. and have replaced both the magneto, and coil on my old one.
That being said, as long as my magneto is good, this coil should get the signal from the magneto and fire just fine. It IS a coil for a 2 Stroke, 50-66cc engine... I can't wait for it to get here so I can either FRY it, or have a good solution!
IF I DO FRY IT, I will purchase the 20 dollar one that ROB63 found! THANK YOU!!!

I know its really neat! Its basically the beginning of the modern day scooter engine! hahaha I was NOT getting ANY spark. I found the exact same coil for the bike, but unfortunately its about 120 dollars after shipping :// SO I bought a TWO STROKE, 50CC, 2 wire Coil, for a motorized bike kit, found here: www.bikeberry.com/engine-kit-parts/electrical/cdi-electron-ignition-coil.htmlWILL this WORK??? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

THANKS ROB, and pmatulew!!! The links are VERY helpful and the video helped also! I DID NOT KNOW, that I had to pull the right hand thumb cable, that goes to the top of the Head. What exactly does that do?? ALSO MY MAIN QUESTION I was NOT getting ANY spark. I found the exact same coil for the bike, but unfortunately its about 120 dollars after shipping :// SO I bought a TWO STROKE, 50CC, 2 wire Coil, for a motorized bike kit, found here: www.bikeberry.com/engine-kit-parts/electrical/cdi-electron-ignition-coil.htmlI am pretty sure that I just needed a 12volt coil, that didn't need a CDI box... AT LEAST I HOPE SO!!! hahaha THANKS ALOT YOU GUYS! COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT YA!!

PS is there a special trick to starting these? I see TWO switches, one on each handle bar, the PUSH DOWN with the brake levers OUT. I am guess ONE of them must be pressed down for GROUND to be complete? THANKS

So far I have taken the WEIRD Carb off, and completely broke it apart and cleaned it really well. I also flushed out the gas tank and shut off valve, put some fresh mixed gas in 24:1.
Not getting a spark, I can hear compression, so thats good, but I think the coil is more than likely bad. It is the original so Im 90 percent sure it needs replaced.
Im pretty sure ANY 12 volt 2 wire coil will work just fine, right? I will prolly pick up some 14ga. wire and redo alot of it as well as the ground. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

One side of the spring is connected to the engine, the other side of the same spring, is connected to the frame Alley
There is only one other spot where the engine is connected to the frame, I am not sure if it is supposed to be like this but on the other mount it is just a bolt through the frame with the engine basically dangling there, no rubber, nothing
