Can't you just replace the exhaust studs? I broke one on a Bashan 150 and backed it out with vise grips. I think I got the studs from Scrappy if I remember right. Maybe I just got lucky but I definately remember replacing it. Speaking of Scrappy, didn't you get that engine from him? Maybe he could help you out with some parts for it.
Oops....reread your post......chunk of casting......ow. Guess that brings us back to Scrappy. Rich Yeah, I got the motor from him and I've sent him an e-mail, but haven't heard back, yet. If it was just a matter of the studs having backed out... I know a few solutions to that. If the holes had stripped... I know a solution for that. But, I've got missing material and I'm pretty sure JB Weld won't be able to put this back together. Far as I can tell, these heads are darn near impossible to find. The common GY6 heads are a dime a dozen... heck, I've got one on short case sitting in my garage. I had another one QMK head from my factory motor, but I sold it Jake only to find out he couldn't use it. I sent him a PM to see if he still had it, but I also haven't heard back from him, yet. If I can't find one, I have no idea what I'm going to do. I'm not buying a new motor just to get a new head, and I'm not quite ready to buy a new scoot. We're starting to come back around to the prime riding season down here. I haven't even ridden my scoot in a good month, with the heat and humidity. That's actually when this happened, but I didn't go looking for the issue until last night.

I think I should start a new build thread. At this stage, this no longer needs to be in the clinic. Well.. @#%@%@.. back in the clinic. I need a new head for my 161QML. Either I was running hot and lean, or I over tightened my exhaust bolts... or both. (Probably both). Last time I rode it, I noticed it got louder at one point and I just figured that the exhaust nuts had worked loose. Well, last night I went to go tighten them and one of the studs came loose, with a small chunk of the casting. I cannot find the QMK/QML style head anywhere. Its stud spacing is just slightly larger than the QMJ.

My problem is I don't know exactly what it looks like because it didn't have one when I bought my scoot. I did buy that cable because I thought it was the right one but the 15mm end is a bit too wide so it won't fit the speedo puck...I'm pretty sure the length is correct or at least near it though. minus the extra 20ccs The scoots are essentially the same scoots. I had a similar issue when I was trying to replace the speedo cable on my Matrix II. I ended up trimming the end that goes into the axle hub with a knife and pushed it into the hub. It wasn't ideal, but it worked. For whatever reason, UM decided to use a different axle hub/speedo cable combination. So, the part is harder to find. You may want to check with Rick @ Scrappy Dog Scooters, I think he was looking for the right cable at one point, about the time I bought the incorrect cable from him.

I have family in Joplin. Their house was a total loss. 3 of 5 injured. No life threatening injuries, but my uncle is still pretty rough shape. I certainly wasn't trying to make light of the devastation in Joplin, It had just not occurred to me that the tornado problems would have any effect on U Haul rental. I hope your uncle recovers quickly. No worries. I didn't think you making light of it! I was just adding a little side story to your U-Haul drama.

If you can find parts for this bike, let me know. Honestly, I'd love a complete set of new plastics, but they just don't exist. I may just buy a generic front fender, but the rest of the body is unique.

Some updates: - Muffler is still too loud, I think I'm going to replace it. I have about 1,000 miles with the muffler on it, so I know I don't like it and I'm not getting used to it. So, I'm looking at options. I may just try a stock style can muffler if I can get one cheap. - After some creative repairs the handlebar plastics, I put them back on. Which also means I now have my factory gauge cluster installed again, which means I have a tach again! I able to repair the missing bits of ABS plastic using some "ABS goo." I didn't take any pictures during the process, but I essentially took liquid ABS plastic and molded into the shape I needed and let it cure, then trimmed it as needed. To be honest, it looks like crap, but its on the underside of the handlebars. Then, when I was done, I painted the back piece with black Krylon Fusion, to cover up the streaking/bleaching from my brake fluid incident. - I still need a front fender. I'm thinking I may try to use the ABS Goo to fix the damaged one I have. - With over 4000 miles on the "new" motor, I can consistently ride at 55mph at about 6500rpm. That's WOT, so I need to play with the CVT to get my peak RPMs up to 7500. Some current pics:

Finally made it home safe and sound. Apparently, there was a tornado in a town 18 miles north of Neosho called Joplin recently. I think there was some news coverage. (tongue in cheek) It appears that U Haul trucks in the Neosho area are few and far between. As in none. We ended up walking to a car dealership and asked if there were any car rental places around and as luck would have it Enterprise rent a car was right next door. We rented a car, drove from Neosho to KC, got my truck, drove BOTH vehicles back, Returned the rental, loaded up the scooter and just got home and got it unloaded. Man what a couple of days. I have family in Joplin. Their house was a total loss. 3 of 5 injured. No life threatening injuries, but my uncle is still pretty rough shape.

I'm thinking of doing the headlight upgrade to LED which shouldn't be an extra draw on the system, being LED's - right? What about adding a 12v outlet for a GPS? Bigger battery should be better right but I'm not familiar with charging ability yet. Thanks in advance for your input Ron You can replace all the bulbs on the scoot with LEDs, but you're not going to get LED headlight bulbs. The swaps people usually make there are higher wattage bulbs or HIDs. FWIW, I think I'm currently running a 9A Autozone Battery. I'd expect it to be about on par with a Wal-mart battery. I've used Wal-mart batteries in my cars before. No real ill effects, but then I'm not trying to crank my car on a cold, sub-zero morning.

You need to use a service like Youtube or Photobucket if you want to publicly share videos. Facebook can be problematic due to security settings.

I would just like to add my experience to this thread.
I was cautious, after reading this thread, to place an order with T-Motorsports on ebay. I was looking for an inexpensive helmet and they had one that fit the bill: Full Face, Dual Visor, Matte Black. I measured my head and I came out on the bottom end of an XL by their chart. My current helmet is a L, so I decided to order a L. Shortly after placing my order, I realized I accidentally ordered a M and e-mailed them. After a few hours, I got a response back saying that they couldn't swap the size ordered because of their inventory system, but would cancel the order and I could re-order the right one.
That goes as planned and I place the order for a L. Within a few hours, I get an e-mail from them that the helmet I ordered (slightly different model from the first one, Gloss Black) was in fact not in stock that I could either wait for the shipping container to come and they'd reduce the price, or they could cancel the order and give me a discount on my next helmet order (within 3 months).
I chose to cancel the order. After re-reading this thread about their helmets running small, I went back to their ebay store and found an XL of the matte black helmet. I placed the order and requested the discount price. No problem. I paid the full price and they refunded the difference.
A few days pass and the helmet arrives. Yes, its a little small. Considering that by the chart I'm on the bottom of a XL, they definitely run small and I may have wanted to order a XXL. But, I think the padding may break in a bit and it'll fit just fine.
The helmet itself does look pretty nice, but you can tell its cheap.
The outer shield appears to be good quality, I didn't notice any distortion. The inner sun shield wasn't as crisp, but still not bad. I wore it for the first time today while riding.
This was my first experience with a full face helmet... let me tell you, that took some getting used to. I've been primarily wearing a 3/4 HJC with a full shield.
As for T-Motorsports, my experience was that their products are cheap, but they responded in a reasonable amount time to my communications and helped me through a few snags.

I've learned that the ACE Hardware near my office is the best place to buy Metric bolts. Since you have one, you'll be able to tell the thread pattern. Measure an approximate dimension, then head on down to ACE and buy a small spread of bolts in about the right size.

Thank you all for the help, and thank you bashan for the picture. Here is one more question for you, If I have not switched to LED's yet, can i still use the 552 thermal flasher?¿ Its a variable load flasher. It should work just fine with the incandescent bulbs, too.
