Did you hold your hand over the intake whilst riding or whilst idling? If at idle then it is not the main jet, if it was whilst riding then perhaps but I have never heard of a main jet been tested by blocking the inlet. Just a thought

ccprof your sense of humour made me laugh cause that was my initial thought as well. To our catrell guest we think you must get some hot air or air pressure in there to dry the lot out. Why don't you go on and register as a member lots of info available.

Ja with a pilot of 40 you will want to go leanish on the needle. The fact that you smell gas on start up tells me that either your pilot and or needle is rich....not so much your main as the main only operates around ¾ throttle. Remember you can also lean out the pilot via the mixture screw.

True what jr said just nibble at it. With the new air filter did you actually increase the airway? The sooted up sparkplug is a clear sign of over richness. I believe that is as a result of the needle setting and not so much the main yet. 120 can do but in the mid range your needle is critical. I would suggest you put the clip at its highest mark (dropping the needle) and test from there.

Scooterrider one of the fundamental rules when messing with jet settings is to do one thing at a time. If you don't follow this rules you will eventually run in circles and get horribly confused. That feeling you describe of something holding the scooter back is actually the engine bogging down and is mostly because of too little fuel ie. too lean. Also it is not good for an engine to be pushed to 7000 rpm when on the stand. That will achieve nothing because the engine is not really working, only on the road will a problem show up. Drop the clip notch by notch and go for a ride. After ¾ it is the main jet that takes over (which is what jrryan means when he says smooth transisiton. Sort out the needle first and if all is ok up to ¾ but not there after then tackle the main jet. Can you tell us what mods was done to the air intake, that could hold the key here?

Hi Daver I don't think changing the weight of the rollers make the clutch engage any quicker or slower. Whatever weights you use, on idle the variator is going to spin, so is the belt and so is the clutch unit. Changing the springs inside the clutch unit could engage it sooner.

I think 125 is too big, what is the elevation of Missouri. Johannesburg SA is about 6000vt above sea level where the oxygen is thin and I am running a 118 main and 7000rpm is possible with a little throttle left. I would rather lower the needle one notch.

So CCPROF what do you teach and where? I'm a high school teacher teaching economics to grade 10 and 11's. Yes I agree with what you and runningslow says about American kids but don't feel bad about it cause when your country is one of the most important ones in the world you tend to ignore the others. But besides that I will probably emmigrate to the US in the next three years when my daughter becomes a citizen so I tend to take a keen interest in the US in fact my oldest daughter read a book about the wars of the US such as North South war and of course when England was still an enemy. I have seen many pictures of the Shenandoah valley (John Denver sings about that place in a song of which I can't remember the name) and the movie Patch Adams was shot there, truly a beautiful place and I will visit it as well, pity it will be winter.

No Luke Djabouti is up near the horn of Africa, South Africa is at the southern most tip of Africa, our annual gross domestic product or GDP is 26% of the total GDP of Africa. However we have the world famous Kruger National Park where it is best to stay in the car cause there are lions, cheetah's, leopards and some other animals that would like to bite your arm off not to mention giraffe, elephants rhino's buffalo etc.

ccprof I don't look like Gary Player and there will be no caddy nor a golf bag with me so they will laugh at me, maybe I can say i'm Lindsay Lohan lol. Luke I like your "Jose" but it is actually "Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light" And its history...read this from Google.
History: In 1814, about a week after the city of Washington had been badly burned, British troops moved up to the primary port at Baltimore Harbor in Maryland. Francis Scott Key visited the British fleet in the Harbor on September 13th to secure the release of Dr. William Beanes who had been captured during the Washington raid. The two were detained on the ship so as not to warn the Americans while the Royal Navy attempted to bombard Fort McHenry. At dawn on the 14th, Key noted that the huge American flag, which now hangs in the Smithsonian's American History Museum, was still waving and had not been removed in defeat. The sight inspired him to write a poem titled Defense of Fort McHenry. The poem was eventually set to music that had originally been written by English composer John Stafford Smith for a song titled "The Anacreontic Song". The end result was the inspiring song now considered the national anthem of the United States of America. It was accepted as such by public demand for the next century or so, but became even more accepted as the national anthem during the World Series of Baseball in 1917 when it was sung in honor of the brave armed forces fighting in the Great War. The World Series performance moved everyone in attendance, and after that it was repeated for every game. Finally, on March 3, 1931, the American Congress proclaimed it as the national anthem, 116 years after it was first written.
Here in SA kids also stay home until graduation or finding a job. My youngest daughter is 21 and still at varsity and living at home. Why not when you have a dad who fills the tank and service the car.

hehe you guys are getting me so frikin excited I think your next vacation must be here in SA. JR I would love to watch some football, its your version of our rugby. Rugby is just tougher as they dont have all them padding and helmets and football is a strange game; too many interruptions by the refs, I also want to see a baseball game as well as basketball. Luke I love tacos and burritos with chicken and yes jalapenos hombre hombre. I will visit the whitehouse, smithsonian, science museums, and of course the buriel site for JFK not to mention the vietnam memorial. Also Capitol Hill perhaps tea with Hillary. Coincidental Luke my daughter's boyfriend also comes from Yuma. Tommy if they make me take my shoes off after an 18 hour flight good luck to them.
ccprof you right its just DC between Virginia and Pennsylvania
I will be landing at Dulles airport in DC so lets hope I have an angelic face and they throw the red carpet out. I can't wait.

Hey Todd before you take the head off (your A & B) make sure the problem is not elsewhere, you may just make yourself a lot of work.

When I read turtle8's post I immediately expected to see he is from Johannesburg SA because here you must have eyes all over. The minibus taxis are notoreous for not having eyes. I have actually seen a couple of superbikes here with a red main light it is very affective. I myself do not ride without my green reflective pullover
