Well, they say it's not if you'll down, it's when. After all my preaching about safety, I went down this morning. I'd ridden over to the grocery store to pick up a couple things. Coming back, I stopped at the stoplight about 1/2 mile from the house. As I was making the right turn at a couple mph, I felt the back end go out from under. I hit a small patch of oil as I was turning. I managed to brake and get a foot down and then I was on the ground. Felt my shoulder and helmet hit, glasses knocked off. I laid there for a couple seconds and found my left leg was pinned under the scoot. Managed to pull my foot out. A kid from Long John Silver's came running over and asked if I was ok. I said to give me a minute. A nice older lady pulled into the parking lot and came over to help. Two clowns in cages at the stoplight that saw me go down just sat there and looked. The kid and lady helped me get the scoot upright and I checked to see if it was ok to ride and after a couple minutes rode home. Damage assessment, scooter - deep scratches on the front and bottom plastic. Deep scratch on the muffler shield. Hard saddlebag on that side knocked out of alignment and the plastic and metal frame scratched. Long black scuff mark along rear plastic - don't know where that came from, maybe my boot? Damage assessment, safety gear - scuffed leather on the shoulder of my jacket, some scuffs on right sleeve and back. Scratches on my visor (Thank God for full face), small scratches on back of helmet. Me - road rash on knee, bruises on left knuckles, cut on right knuckles, cut on right wrist. Don't know how they happened, my gloves aren't cut. Sore right thigh muscles and sore right ribs. All in all, I was lucky and I can't say it often enough - wear your safety gear! Front plastic Front & side Hard saddlebag Me The weather's supposed to be rainy for the next few days so I won't be riding until later in the week. Ride safe folks!

Yikkes! I am glad you didn't have any permanent damage to yourself.
Stupid Oil spots... On the bright side, your bike now has just a little bit more character then it did before:)

Thanks all. Luke - thanks but I'll be 62 in November. Believe me, the old bones feel it right about now. Fortunately, the road rash is right on top of an old scar so my beautiful legs aren't any worse off. LOL guys!
Kiwi - I'll try and touch up the plastic for now.

Take care of yourself, Larry. We'll be looking for a how-to on repairing road rash (on the scoot). It would have been a lot worst without the protective gear. A good lesson for other scoot riders. Heal fast.

Ouch! Glad ur okay! That always sucks.
For future cases of a rear slide, keep in mind that you absolutely should not brake at all. U'll have a better chance of riding it out.

Larry, Sorry to hear about the accident but glad you're ok. Did the repair you just did on the floorboard hold up? At least you are able to still ride it. I just got to ride today after about two weeks of no riding. Working a lot of overtime this month and next so my riding days are limited the rest of this year.

Sorry, Larry, but at least you were not speeding when it happened. You can paint the plastic and be riding in no time. You will heal quickly being a youngster. I have dropped my Tank twice and my TGB Del. 150 once, all three in the front drive. Not fun!!! Glad you were wearing your safety outfit. I wear a half helmet(cant get anything else over my cochlear implant) Steel Toed Brahma lace up boots, heavy canvas pants, either Carhardt or duckies, gloves and either leather or Fieldshear jackets depending on the weather. I am 74 and intend to get a lot older if possiblle. My pet peeve: see this all the time in my area. Bikers and scooter riders with helmets, tank tops, shorts, and sneakers. The only reason they wear helmets is because it is the law. So, hang tough, get well, and get back on the scoot!!

Thanks every body. I definitely feel it in the ribs today. The weather's supposed to be crappy for the next few days. I don't have class tomorrow so I can work on it some. Looks like Thursday will be the first chance.
Wayne - I never checked that side. I was too PO'd over the damage to the right.
At least my wife didn't freak out. I thanked her for that. She said since she didn't get a call to come get me at the ER, it wasn't too bad. Last week she was talking about getting a 50cc in the Spring. She says she changed her mind.
Wolfie - see the same around here but also no helmet because of our laws.

Wait - hold the bus - that's RED JR - that would slow it down! Even scratched up blue is faster than smooth red. LOL!
Guys - "relatively" is the key word. At this point, I feel like I got hit by a truck. I taught today and every time I moved, I hurt. Yawning, sneezing and deep breaths hurt. Somehow, I bruised a couple ribs.
Thanks guys. If I feel a little better tomorrow, I'm going to work on it some.
