Does anyone know if there is a higher watt headlight bulb which fits the same socket and won't melt the plastic? I drive home at night now and the 35 W headlight bulbs suck.
Thanks

Hi speedracer. The lenses on these scoots are rated for 35 watts. Here is a 45 watt direct replacement bulb. I would use caution for 2 reasons. This bulb might be a little too hot for the bulb holder/lens and the scoot's charging system might have a problem with the extra electrical load. The bulbs are reasonable priced and it's worth a try. You could try running just one of the bulbs with a 45 watt replacement. www.bulbtown.com/6245B_12V_45_45W_A7379_410_5024_BA20D_BASE_p/6245b.htm

Thanks Cruiser. SC must have a law prohibiting street lights. With the days getting shorter my speed has adjusted to it, as I ride about 5 mph slower then normal. I can follow the yellow lines well enough, but I am concerned about someone not seeing me coming and pulling out in front of me. Those bulbs are cheap enough and worth a try.

Get a Halogen bulb for it, same 35 watts but probably twice as bright. The socket is the same as our scooters use and it can be purchased for under $6.00. Check out some of our sponsors they have them listed. I switched to the Halogen bulb and couldn't believe how much better and brighter it is, and with over 700 miles driven on the new bulb no damage to the lamp housing or lens.

You could wire your scoot so that the dim/lo beam headlight stay on when you go to hi beam. That is if your scoot is one of those where just one headlight run on high beam. A lo-beam with a high beam makes a world of difference with lighting.

gmoney, I have not seen any 35W halogens that fit the same socket on the 54B. Curious if any one else has tried them and have not burned the lens cover or discolored it.
Cruiser one 45 W and one 35 W seems like a good idea. More light and less draw on the battery.

Thanks for the info! I think I'm going to put Halogens in.
Should I start with one or just do both?

If you're wanting serious light, you might want to consider HID's. 35W power draw and heat, so your electrical system and plastic can handle it, and several times increase in light output. You'll find plenty of discussion of HID upgrades in other threads.

monkeywrench, I have thought of the HID lights, but I suck at electronics. I am going to give the Halogen light bulbs a chance and pray I don't melt the lens covers. IF they give off almost twice the light I should be in good shape riding home at night.
