Yesterday I got nailed by a driver who wasn't paying attention . She crossed over from the lane to my right to cut me off while trying to make an illegal left turn at an intersection . I had no where to go even with horn and brakeing. I nailed the drivers side of her SUV . As a scooter you must keep an eye out for anthing and everything either on the sides of you or in front. The drivers may not see you due to the smaller size of your scoot's . Use that horn !!My last piece of advice I am giving is serious , get a Helmet !!!! Some states like Idaho don't have a mandatory helmet law. My helmet saved me from head injurys yesterday !!! Bashan said I should post about this and I am doing so now. Luckily I was fortunate enough to come away from the acccident only with a baddly bruised up right knee. My scoot is another matter . Get a helmet and keep those eyes out for any possible trouble. will c.

I moved your post to General Discussion Will because I thought everybody regardless of the size scooter they ride should read this. Good advice from Will y'all, keep your eyeballs peeled, assume that cager is going to turn in front of you, and wear a helmet! Rich

My Dad always said, "Somewhere out there is a nut waiting to get you. Your job is to not let him."

Glad your OK! Did she even stop or take responsibility? To many times around here when I hear about a bike getting hit by a car, the car takes off so as not to get caught!

OMG Will! I'm glad you weren't seriously injured. I've always said that there's an old lady out there driving a big old Buick with my name on it. I may not wear the armored jacket (believe me they help when you go down) but I always wear a helmet.

Will PM'd me some pictures from his wreck. As you can see it doesn't look horrific but I've spilled on a motorcycle and it doesn't take much to get hurt.
The main body damage is where he hit on the right side: If you'll notice, the handlebars are twisted, that could mean some real frame problems: The left side is also scruffed up:
This is the scooter that Will put so much time and energy into fixing. He also uses this scooter as a main means of transportation even in those bitter Utah winters. I'm sure he's heartbroken and I sincerely hope he gets back on two wheels again, Rich

Im in Idaho not Utah Rich !! lol !! The lady who hit me stopped immediatly. She has taken full responcibility for the accident and was cited for improper lane change. I had 3 witnesses who saw everything . One of those witnesses called 911 within seconds after I got hit and went down. The lady who hit me called me later that night to see how I was doing. Many don't do that when they cause an accident like this. Bit by bit my right knee is getting better. It still hurts like h#$% when I get up from a chair or straightening the leg out. There is one bruise I am having to watch due to the blood thinning medication I take daily. Hopefully Monday I'll know more what will be happening with the insurance. She had already started the claims process while I was still in the ER. I'll keep this thread updated as things progress in the coming days . will

very lucky that particular person was involved. my biggest fear riding is the ones with no insurance...or license for that matter. even if a crash was an accident when they are bent on getting away the consequences almost always get greater. take some time and get your self feeling better john

Here in SC helmets are not required, but I will never be caught without my brain bucket on. My wife says I dumb enough without cracking my nut! Such a loving woman she is, I'm sure she only means it in the most loving way...I think?!?!?! LOL

Glad you're ok. I had a very similar crash, and my attacker was a young kid in an old lexus wearing sunglasses at night. I ended up replacing some parts and "repairing" some with ABS cement. I was OK, and to his credit, the kid showed up with the money I asked for for the parts when he said he would.

Update : The scoot was totaled !! I received a check this afternoon from Geico for the scooter part of the claim . Tonight I found a Stella (Vespa PX 150 Clone) . $1300 cash . It's a 2004 (if I remember right) . 2 cycle engine , electric and kick start , beautiful condition . Has only 1800 miles on it and has been taken very well care of . Like new litteraly !! I'll make the payment tomorrow afternoon. It's much different tranny than the Roketa had. This a manual 4 speed . Just like the old vespas of the past. Happy ? Yep !!I'll post pics when I get it home. It's a 150cc so I'll still be very much part of the 150cc forum . Will
