You can change the power curve with weights or sliders. What you gain on the top you loose on the bottom.. however to really increase the top end you need more power and up gear the rear gear ratios
You may get 3-5 mph with a good combo of weights...

What he means is just with a bigger Variator and weights you can get 3-5mph. With more power and upping the tranny gears you would be looking anywhere from 6-10mph gain depending on your rpms. See my Trike in my signature, when I first got it it would top out at 50mph at 8200 rpms. Now it will do 50mph at 5100 rpms 60 at 6100 rpms and had it up to 70 at 6800-6900 rpms. But I added 32 more ccs and went from 13/40 gears to 16/37 gears in the tranny. Sucker smokes BRO Alleyoop

Yes... it could be grabbing with a high idle... turn the idle down on the center stand until the rear wheel just begins to turn, then back it off 1/8 turn or so...
But if it has been running with a high idle like that for a while the clutch pads will be glazed sure as shoot...

mine used to do that, then a month and a half later peices of my clutch started to fly apart inside of my clutch bell and i had to get new clutch. it does not do that any more. its a small possibility but it could also be a wheel bearing, or maybe you might want to check the belt.

Belt is good, I'll try clutch pads, what weights & springs etc should I get to achieve greater mph? I don't want to sacrifice mpg though

You have to know what weights you have in there now...most people buy a few different weights or sliders and play around with them...it is a matter of person preference...you won't get much if anything from the weights you might get a bit with a larger variator..depends on your set-up and they are all a bit different.

okay no problem, it bogs down I don't know why it won't take off very quickly and it won't take off very fast, thought air filter was problem but it wasn't. now the entire vehicle is shaking crazily, it dies easily and then doesn't run at all. it is also backfiring, through the air intake, sense the air filter is missing. Could it be valve adjusted too right, I doubt it though because before I adjusted the valves, it did this then too.

By far the easiest way to find tdc is to remove the spark plug.Insert a screwdriver in spark plug hole and rotate the engine by hand until the screw driver protrudes from the hole the most, piston will then be at tdc,02works every time
