concerning the rubber strap that goes between the muffler and the metal strap that holds the muffler, about how many of these do any of you go through within a year/ 2 months? mine melted off after a good 60+ mile ride, well some of it melted off, but most of it melted on, leaving a bunch of black rubber streaks and spots that smoke every time i ride ive only had the new muffler for a couple of months. should they melt that fast? if not i guess im running too hot and need to locate the source of the heat. any thoughts?

They should last a bit longer than that. Where did you get the exhaust? Is it cheap rubber or something a bit more substantial? Adiabatic rubber should last a bit longer.

I think all the issues you've had with your exhaust studs are a part of the problem here.
Back in August, the day that one of my exhaust studs cracked right out of the head and my exhaust came loose was the same day that I managed to melt one of my rear turn signals. (Search back for my "Salvidor Dali Mod" in case you missed it.)
I'm assuming that allowing that extra air to enter caused it to run super lean and hot.
Sadly, that was the last time I rode my scooter.

thats odd. My exhaust gets pretty hot and mine has been on my scooter for over 2 years now with no problems. they should not melt like that.

Snit.. just get a black rubber flat bungie strap and use two pieces of that. Rubber is vulcanized at a higher temperature than a muffler ever gets...sounds like yours are a thermal plastic...

when i did the air filter mod and the free flow exhaust mod, i never up-jetted the carb, could that cause the muffler to get hot enough to melt the strap?
