My TaoTao scooter that is only 1year old and has 1143miles on it wont start. it has a new carb, fuel filter, spark plug, magneto, and spark plug wire. when i unplug the fuel ine from carb it squirts fuel when i turn it over so it is getting fuel in the carb, i'm not sure how to see if it is sparking on time, or how would i know if it is my CDI acting up if i spray fuel directly in to the intake of the carb nothing and if i put it into the engine block i get fire (not engine starting just fire lol) and i don't know what to do if i bring it to the dealer he will charge me $150 to look at it and every part he fixes he jacks up the price by $50 like a spark plug is like $45 LOL.

The fuel system works on vaccum so if replaced those parts then continue to try to start it as the fuel pressure might not have built up yet.

Can you take pictures of the Carb area and hoses. First of all it was running what happened?? Did you rod the crap out of it or what. You could have a hole in the piston, is this a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? Need some background on WHAT YOU DID or WHAT HAPPENED. Alleyoop

Ok, i will take a pic l8ter and it ran for a year and it started progressively getting harder to start till it did not start no more. so i checked the spark plug and the boot assembly that connects to the spark plug was bad so i got a new one, and it started the first time then i shut it off and no more spark. so i got a new magneto, and i installed it and it worked fin but i forgot a screw on the inside so i shut it off and put the screw in where it went, and i went to start it again and nothing seance then. i think it might be the cdi not sparking on time but it also is not fluding like it isent getting fuel but the carb is getting fuel and im not sure how to check the carb, to see if it is spitting the fuel out, but it is getting full of fuel though. and the suction on the motor is right. the motor is a 4 stroke 49cc. the piston i'm sure is fine no coward sounds it sounds like new but it isent starting. (like i said it is sucking on the carb)

If you unscrew the sparkplug and put it into the plug cap, hold the cap in your hand and put the metal part of the plug against some bare metal either on the engine or frame, then crank the engine on the starter. Do you have a spark then ?

I bought a second hand SYM RV 150cc here in Taiwan. After 6 months I changed the Gaskets, Crank. The technician couldn't find a 150cc head, so he installed a 180cc head. Then I needed to change the Alternator and electrical regulator. And I have changed the Starter twice all ready.
Now, the scooter runs oly a month on the battery, then the electronic starter doesnt work. Fuses has been changed. If we connect a new battery, the bike elect starter starts the bike with no problem, but just for a few weeks.
Just before the starter stops to work, the lights will all go off, sometimes flicker, and only the brake light will function. My horn only works the first week with the new battery.
we have checked the wires....Please help...I enjoy the scooter, but this bike gives me alot of problems.

Regulator/rectifier needs to be replaced, or the stator is defective..need to check the voltages from the stator in AC volts

since you have not specified how new the carb is, i would check to see if the diaphragm needle broke inside of the carb. mine broke at about 1K miles and from a quick visual inspection ( from the side of the road with no tools ) it appeared fine untill i took it apart and seen what happened. The "new" carb you installed, was it the matching OEM carb that came stock with your bike? if needle is OK then check the integrity of your intake manifold for cracks and make sure its butted up to the block good, dont put it on too tight you dont want to strip those out also could give us details about the "screw" you forgot to put in? might help troubleshoot. happy scootin' edit: sprocket is a valve adjustment guru, if you dont have any feeler gauges, he can learn ya on how to still pull off a perfect adjustment.

This is on my 150 mine does not have any emission stuff so it is pretty simple but the hoses for vacumm for the pump and carb should be the same as the fuel hose from the tank wherever yours is. Alleyoop
