Reason I asked how long it ran at 3000 rpms is to determine if the ENRICHER is working or not. If the Idle came down after you goosed it it is either the throttle is sticking or the ENRICHER is not closing fast enough and it should shut off within like 5 minutes.
Is the Enricher on correctly take a picture of the enricher on the carb.
To test if it is working take it off lay it on its side then put your thumb over the HOLE AND HOLD YOUR THUMB on it and start it and keep your thumb on the hole. NOW watch the ENRICHER and TIME it to see how long it takes to EXTEND OUT about 1/4 of an inch.

Bo, Your ENRICHER is working good, so that is good.
Q1. Are you holding the throttle open so it idles HIGH?
Your CARB DOES have an IDLE SPEED SCREW they ALL DO. Take a picture of your carb and I will point out the IDLE SPEED SCREW for you. Alleyoop

Bo, Just give that screw about 1/8 turn Clockwise before you even start it. After you start it if the idle is to high then you can always lower it or raise so the IDLE is around 2500 rpms COLD. Don't forget that motor idles around 1800-2000 rpms after it is nice and warm so COLD starts it should idle up around 2500 rpms or so then settle back down by itselft to 1800-2000 rpms. Alleyoop

Hi Alleyoop, I've never had my idle that high, cold starts idle about 2,000 or 2,200rpms?

2500 is a estimate it all depends AFTER the ENRICHER shuts off the extra fuel what does the idle drop down to where you want it to idle the smoothest. So if your motor idles the smoothest at 1800 then yea the cold start should idle up around 2200. In other words COLD starts should raise the IDLE only about 500 rpms over the warm idle. Alleyoop

That is what I am saying BO, TURN THE IDLE SPEED SCRW about 1/8 clockwise that is just as if your holding the throttle open a little the IDLE SPEEDS SCREW does the same thing as the throttle it opens the BUTTERFLY with FINE ADJUSTMENTS. Alleyoop
