Near death

Some guy in a black Mustang almost took me out with a head on while talking on his CELL PHONE! Just a few minutes ago! We were finishing up a relaxing ride and this guy crossed the yellow and headed right for me. I somehow got out of his way and then I almost went off of the road looking in my mirrors to make sure Sue didn't get killed. She was upset but I don't think really has realized what almost happened. Now, if I took my helmet at the end of the strap and tested the DOT crash rating on him, would I get in trouble? I'm just sayin. What I'm sayin' is this has got to stop before too many people get seriously hurt. Rich

No joke. I think they should develop some kind of technology that cancels calls in moving vehicles without Wi Fi.

Yep, agreed. I will not stop riding, I don't know what the wife is going to say, she may not want to again but I don't think she saw the guy barreling towards. But should I let that slide? Hide it from her?! I saw it in my mirrir! I won't forget it. I will syill ride.

ride like your invisible
I just happened to remember last thursday we were following a county cop at about 150 yards in the car watching him repeatedly cross the yellow line for a couple miles. I wonder how many he has arrested for just that!
With the car I generally run my right wheel about a foot from the white fog line on right and with a bike or scooter run the beaten path where the cars right wheel rides. The center of lane always has extra oil from junk cars and in both cases there is less crap for my tires to run over.

Another tip for visibility is to use your high beam during daylight hours.

Be safe all I think that people just don't see scooters or look for them I agree with kz that cell phones should be turned of in vehicles unless people have blue tooth or something similar. Texting has killed a lot of folks so far out there in my different ways and besides you can't pay attention to driving a vehicle texting right?

I ride a ton and I see sh!t all the time,,, saw a girl texting just today,,, she was all over the road ,, this is why I ride super aggressively ,, no bullish!tting around,,, and also no left lane riding if on a 4 lane,, the left lane or the left part of a 2 lane hwy is the death zone,,, this is also the reason I like 100+ hp bikes,,, no one can touch me on one of those ,,, I like a cushion of space and with lots o ponies I get it,,, the vespa is nice but weak ,, there's no pull after 50 mph ,,, as far as someone doing a left in front of you or crossing over the line,,, you better hope GOD has something planned for you later in life or you might get to meet him,,, be aware,, be sharp,,, bike in high state of tune,, tire pressure up,,,, not feeling up to snuff? Don't ride,,, no distractions ,, I didn't ride for almost all of December ,, I was sick on and off kinda punky ,, didn't ride,,, also in shape? I have to lose 20 myself but I move 2-3 households worth of furniture a week for 30+years so fairly solid for an antique,,, also a huge one NO DRINKING and driving even if it's one or two,,, that tenth of a second added reaction time could get you killed

He had his head looking straight down into the phone! The jerk looked up and we eyeballed each other. That was close, I'm good, I think the wife is too. I flashed my warning beam a couple times, that may have been what got him to look up and swerve. I do the "live lolly" a lot. That's what we called it in T town. You juke your bike back and forth a little laterally to break up the cager's loss of focus. I didn't have an extra microsecond to do that, I just hit the flasher a couple times. Hell, I don't know what happened except I'm still here.
Pete, I gotta agree with ya. Those ponies have saved me a few times. I will not quit riding, ain't gonna happen.

Scare the livin sh!t out of you,,,,this is what I worry about the most ,,, distracted drivers,,, even my wife will go for her phone when a text come in,,, I'm in the passenger seat and say " touch that thing I'm swinging you'll be very distracted and it won't be the phone" ,,, people get hypnotized by devices lately,,, one of the reasons I love to ride,,, no distractions,,, no phone radio music nothing but ride

The high beam thing is something I been doing for a long time. Not only better vis but since we have to have lights on during the day, I would rather have the high beam burn out first. Some times at night a cop gets his tick quota with a few "failed to dim" charges.

Yeah you really have to pay more atention than driver do we are small little looking like bikes not big bulky cars. Glad to hear your ok great stinky. I prefer riding with someone than buy myself due to you can ride next to each other or behind or in front and motorists see it more.
