I turned my daughter loose on a 50 when she got a job at 14. It enhanced her independence and faciliated her entry into adulthood. She abandoned the first one when the petcock failed, and had the second one stolen. The third one served for another year, then she sold it to buy a car. She sold the car to buy a Stella 150, and now she has a car and a scooter. I bought the car, of course, and paid for half of the Stella. Still, I'm helping her because she makes continual progress, and it started when she got her first scooter. LOL when they start to drive Dads end up owning vehicles they dont want rofl. Been there and have a T shirt! You go dad!

Rich, did all the electricals when I got it. Thats when I discovered when JCL went to post turn signals they abandoned turn signals enclosed in red plastic, but left the wiring bulbs and all intact. I tied the old t.signal lights to brake lights and can lite the moon. all other electricals were good, except rear lights ground inside the shrink tubing which has been fixed. Fuel lines etc are done. Im questioning myself right now if the egr junk is beneficial. No emissions here. Thanks I forgot the CDI. As mentioned clutch grabs when its been damp, so bye bye clutch. Thanks for the input.

We all know the scooters are relative cheap and built on a budget. intentions are to take the JCL 150 up in dependability and a little more performance, verses a bigger bike because the bigger bikes just do not appeal to me. Basis of upgrades better tires, replacement of the exhaust and intake with appropriate rejet. Suspension: Heaver oil in the front shocks, with additional spacers to slightly stiffen the front, heavier shocks rear. Final drive: better variator and slightly lower G.rollers, Heavier clutch springs, this is because I allready have experienced clutch grab and jerk on damp mornings, and higher gears for highway running. Bike came with non plastic intake tube, good belt, and good plug. Additional comment, frame under plastics is perfectly placed to install a strong cross bar to attach hiway pegs to streach the legs. I've allready figured this out and it seems a better attachment than the way Jay did his. OK guys & gals, open to suggestions what have I missed? Yep I know jack up the gas cap and put a Vespa 300 under it.

Valve seats are steel inserts. Yes, they can be. But if you read this Wikipedia article you can see that they can also simply be the area where the valve makes contact with the actual head metal. This often occurs in inexpensively made engines like the Chinese GY6. If you'll look in the Arrow and Tank manuals in our Library there's sections on how to use tools to cut the head material to match the valve and then lap the valve to seat it. I suspect that many of the more sophisticated engines that are coming out now in the high end scooters will have valve seat inserts of some exotic metals. RichThats where I was coming from. No seat, - - head, steel valves, non anoized valve top. Results China Mfg set valves close to get them to run. Heat and run time causes valves to seat further in the -- head and the constant strike from the tappet combined with the heat of running anneals the stem head. All this causes valves to need adjustment. LOL the good thing is once broken in your not going to drop a seat on the highway. Now the thought of the fast breakin as opposed to the slow one probably causes a deeper seat in the -- head faster, while giving a slower annealing of the valve stem head.

Valve seats are steel inserts. LOL qauite farmilar with them used to ne an aircraft engine tech always pullin jugs to send to the shop to have new seats installed from compression loss broken valves etc. Question arose because I read some Mfg are not installing seats.

I wonder how much better, opps lets say more dependable, the higher priced scooters really are. Lets face it the China bikes are cheaply built but getting improved on each year.

That might be Rich but I think cheap scooters will be with us for a long time. Look at Killer Motor Sports: www.killermotorsports.com/250cc_Scooters_250_Gas_Mopeds_Cheap_250cc_s/406.htmThe 2007 model is $1550, but the current identical is, what?, $1900. Who else sells a scooter that cheap. Even Green Earth and GS Motorworks are selling their current 150s for around $1000. Compare that to the next cheapest 150s from Kymco. The Chinese built Super 8 is $2400, over twice as much. Plus Killer is selling The Bali 250, which I assume is nearly current, at $1550. Highway speed for under $1600. One third the price of a Kymco 250. I bought one of those $1550 2007 250's shipped in silver. Should be here REAL soon. It has the 257cc Linhai clone engine. Compared to what your riding is there that much difference between the new and old size? I would really prefer a 250 but they look like boats to me.

Thanks for the post, I have been looking for months for something like this. I used to think the front end settled because of my weight when I started riding these bikes but now that I have finally dropped to 170Lb., from 235, , I think its just another instance of build it cheap, capture market share and sell better ones as the time goes by. Even at 170 LB. there is a road here that has no chuck holes, just bad surface that jars both my bike and old truck, ( New shocks about 3000 miles ago).

And what is the cost of batteries and what is their life cycle? When it all comes down to it I really believe a scooter can be modified to run on panther pee, propane, water whatever has hydrogen in it and if you dont have electricity available too bad.LOL just had an image of pulling a trailer with a wood burner on it making steam. ' A mind is a terrible thing to waste",
