I don't recall the exact numbers for shock inflation so be very conservative starting out. Start with only a couple of psi and work up from there. It wasn't alot. Cyborg would have a better handle on that than I would.

Actually if you look at the oil flow diagram for a GY6, the oil is pumped into the chamber formed by the plug, spring and screen and back up into the sump. That's why you find trapped bits in the cap when you pull it out. I found bits of spring, gasket and some sludge or other foreign material in the plug. In old times Brit bikes that were dry sump had a screen in the oil tank that had to be cleaned at each oil change.

That "Screen" is your oil filter. It blocks crap from banging up your engine. After I broke my valve springs I found chunks of hardened steel spring material that had wedged in the engine after and during the blowup. They were stopped in their tracks from doing who knows what kind of damage by that "Screen". No speeches about how I should have flushed out the engine, I did. If not for the screen I'd be on my second engine by now.

It looks like a cap for an air valve to me. If you unscrew it you should find a Schrader valve under it. You would adjust your ride height with it for carrying more weight or a passenger. That's pretty neat for a scooter.

you will be very surprised how handy the addition of a crate makes the scooter. I use the 50cc bike so much more since I added it. The bike went from a dusty garage sitter to a major addition to the fleet with the crate installed. Rock on.

It's not a question of hardware with many motorcycles. Even the counter balanced one emit a high frequency vibration through the frame that seems to be amplified at the tail light and bracket hanging off the back. My wife's mounting hardware was still there along with pieces of the plate. The larger piece vibrated, cracked around the washers and fell off. My W650 Kawasaki actually started to crack the entire rear fender in front of the tail light assembly. I had to drill small holes to stop the crack from spreading. Old Harleys used to break all sorts of things before they rubber mounted the engine. I saw a new Low Rider break its Battery Box mounts and spill acid all over the frame and exhaust pipes out the vent hose. Scooters rubber mount their engines in the pivots, no problems.

Currently have a blue screw or valve type deal on the top of my shock. any ideas what it will do if i unscrew it... What kind of scooter is it? Some of the classy motorcycles have air shocks that you put air in to adjust the ride height. Even classier shocks have a valve to recharge the nitrogen. A picture would be nice to see of it.

The only knock I ever heard on chain or geared drive was that the scoot it was on would only do about 30 mph. The gearing is fixed with a range limit. On a CVT it's like having a multi gear transmission so you have a low gear to pull away with and higher gears (lower numerically) for when you get rolling. Even still, 30 mph is more than adequate and those bikes would run forever.

Way to go Luke! A 50cc scooter for $28 is a deal too good to pass up. That it started and runs is like winning the lottery. Another garage dweller comes to life.

Did you check the Speedo cable? I'M guessing at this point it's something else.

Now you have to ask yourself,"What was different about the stop on Campus?" Was there a speed bump before the stop, was there some kind of strange turn, did you have to jump a curb. Something is knocking on something or again, have somebody spin the wheel for you and hit the brake slowly. You have to isolate the noise. Also, run backwards with the scooter and hit the front brake, then go forward and see if it's changed.

KZ has a bigger milk crate than that. You know how it is Luke. People who love to ride set their bikes up so they can use them most. People who don't love to ride have a trailer.

Plus the Powerlink Premium is fairly long-lived. I put one in the 150cc 5,300 miles ago and it's still working just fine.

We know who you were talking about. Get with the program, this thread is about what type of oil to use, not about how smug you think you are. Alley's comment about using what you want is really the most definitive.
