Go to www.modernvespa.com They can help you best with this. It sounds like a ground wire came undone or a dead battery.

Fuel, air, spark. Also check that the kill switch is not turned off.

Look for a vacuum leak. Letting go of the throttle is a pretty good sign that air/fuel is being upset by something. Either a vacuum line or intake manifold is leaking.

Somewhere there is a short circuit. Look for a wire that has its insulator rubbed through and shorting to ground.

The only help you will ever get with most China scoots is engine manuals. There are several GY6 manuals listed here.

Look for an open circuit somewhere. I had a wire rub through to the point that only a few strands were carrying power. It shows up as low lights and other non functional equipment.

It could be a balky CDI but are you sure the kill switch is on and functioning?

When you start it and it's idling listen and see if you hear a hissing noise. It still sounds like a vacuum leak. Maybe a cracked intake manifold or something in the emissions system is letting air in.

Bolts in a blender is bad. Check the compression. It almost sounds like either broken valve springs or a dropped valve.

My best guess is you have a vacuum leak in a hose. Check the fuel pump line from the carburetor to the pump. Also the intake manifold. If it has a crack in it your mixture runs lean.

I would review the carb situation. A 50cc GY6 has an 18mm carb while the 150 carb is 24mm. The engine could be struggling breathing through the larger orifice. It sounds like vacuum issue and you discovering the original carb could be an indicator. Trace the vacuum lines you have to see if they are damaged or disconnected. All you are describing sounds like a vacuum leak.
