I just replaced the fuel shut off on a 72 Vespa. Its. Goes into the bottom of the tank and is also the filter and fuel hook up. It just mounts into about an inch and a half hole with a gasket and a nut on the inside. I ill try to find the link where I ordered the new one. www.scooterworks.com/Fuel-Valve-no-sediment-bowl-P688C418.aspx

I use gas with 10% ethanol and have never had any problems. Everything from scooters to lawnmower starts rite up in the spring. If you want to be extra sure get a product called Stable, follow the instructions on the can and you won't have any problems.

A compression test would be a good place to start. If you don't have access to a comprehension tester I agree you should check the valve clearance. I have often had to adjust the valves a second time after break in when installing a BBK.

Up here in SD we have a couple of people killed every winter on snowmobiles. You have to ride with caution regardless of the type of machine.

I second Rich's recommendation on that meter. We use those at the scooter shop. Very handy and extremely durable.

I have to admit that I haven't had any problems with the cheap head gaskets. My wife's scooter has two, one on top of the other. I coated each with Copper Coat and so far so good. When I put the big bore kit on it I didn't like the head that came with it. So I used the original head with 2 gaskets to keep the compression down.

That's cool! A copper head gasket if it were available would be good on a performance engine.

Got this of EBay for my naked scooter project. Payed $1.25 plus $17.00 shipping. LOL should allow me to remove all the plastic around the handle bars. The spedo uses some kind of magnetic pick up so that is going to take a little engineering to make work or I can get a standard cable Drive spedo and use the other 2 gauges and the nice mounts. The head gasket is exposed to the full pressure of the combustion cycle so is has to be a stout material. As far as the guide pins go they are there to ensure the precise alinement of the cylinder, head, and rocker arms. I would think that if there was a missing one it could cause oil leaks and other problems.

Glad to see another Verucci owner! Rich has you pointed in the right direction. I'll chip in if I can add anything.

The only thing I would caution you about is I don't remember it coming with any kind of real warranty. For the price I wasn't concerned as I'm planing on taring it down, checking everything, and probably doing a big bore kit.
