i am sorry,, but silicone sucks. nothing sticks to it,, it is near impossible to remove all residue it touches, and it never seals anything for very long. one hasta take away some of the surface to get it clean enough to use any other sealer after it is used and fails (and it will fail,,, fast!). so forget about using any other threadlocker or gasket sealer after silicone is applied.

i noticed you have no insulator ( rubber "boot") on the end of the sparkplug wire that slides over the spark plug. moisture is part of your problem. without the insulator,, even humidity will help the spark to short. the spark is veery high voltage. and will take the path of least resistance. i am surprised no one else noticed the lack of insulator. the ring at the exhaust is a gasket, you need that or some form of heat resistant gasket. (silicone rubber is not a viable option for a exhaust "doughnut" Here is pics of the plug. The scooter rode to school at a steady 35 most of the time. I only had to throttle up maybe an 1/8th to 1/4th to reach top speed. Any higher and no gain at all, but no stuttering out or lose of power either. this ring was on the part of the pipe with the smaller hole. should i remove it? The ring looks jacked up with jagged edges. it doesnt look to be oem.

to make the wife happy with a purchase is not to let her know about it Just let them see it when it is too late . John easier to get forgiveness than permission. it wasn't that way in the caveman days, as i remember.

also forgot to mention, i noticed starting was not as immediate so that is when i changed the sparkplug. it made a big difference. i remember the first time i pulled the plug to see how she was doin and was soooo suprised at the clean condition, i bet when i get it running full time on h2 i may never (so to speak) have to change plugs.

kz1000st posted: How many miles on the Zuma? What kind of maintenance do two strokes in the 21st century need? Do you have to clean the exhaust baffles or does it have a catalytic converter? joe says: the maintenance has been surprisingly non existent,, spark plug,,, 10,000 miles stayed clean , have 2 years 20,000 mi 3 spark plugs just to see any difference in performance,, tires X2,,, ft brake pads,,,2 sets.. i would recommend new tires off the bat the stock ones were very thin material even when new,,, i run hi octane,, prolly time to check exhaust deposits on that muffler. it has a hose attached to a thingy that might b a cat,, but i am not sure. this gives me a reminder to review the zuma forum i havnt been to since i learned the throttle mod from them. them guys know their zumas. they will know if it has a cat. i dont trust any salesman to properly represent what they sell, so i am hesitant to ask the dealer if it has a cat i have to say, the china bikes we rent,,, after an initial go through, to upgrade a few parts,, cdi coil,, etc,,they are pretty good scoots. like the breather,, i call it detailing, (cutting plastic left from "leaking" through the seams of the mold when manufactured). i even found one rubber "boot" that went to the carb from the airbox to have a different shape than the box had for the boot to fit in so i hadda make gap filler to make the hose fit. i mean there was 1/2 inch gap on the sides.. just suckin sand. all in all,, in this subject, it seems true the saying,, one gets what one pays for. zumas run 2300 bucks in my area compared to 600 - 1200 bucks for a china scoot. with upgrades i estimate a savings w/china scoots in money,, but no savings in time or reliability. so if one does not need absolute reliability on getting anywhere in a certain amount of time, and dont mind spending quality time with their scoot, (repairing, and tinkering) i say china scoot will do. i got your message, mike. runningslow: it is a smaller world by way of the internet, aint it? thanks again for the warm welcomes from everyone, joe

Just a note ...the rear brake on scooters don't stop them..people think they should but they are wrong. When braking any motorcycle or scooter you use BOTH brakes together, the front brake does the stopping, the rear brake simply stops the rear end from coming around, so you stop straight. The correct balance is about 80% front, and 20% rear...for street use. true,, however,,,, ft brake on sandy or gravely, or icy pavement= loss of steering, and a certain dump and scratch or worse. that stuff hurts. joe

yamaha zuma has the reverse threads on the right side (ft brake side) however i hope they are phasing them out try to find reverse threads is no easy task. or is it that i am out on the edge of the world way out here?
parts are far and few in between and then there are used scooters for sale,,, but not in my area. people be hanging on to their scoots.
