Hah! Rich, I bet you had to dig for that one! Good thing that when I'm on the scoot, the Starbucks goes under the seat!

As it turns out, I have a conflict for the day.
So, even if my scooter was running, I wouldn't be able to go.

Yeah... but it would be the other way around. Mine would be the parts bike. But, in all honesty, even if I offer $1000.... I may as well just buy a fresh new engine and a nice new exhaust for mine and be done with it.

Hah. That looks familiar! Only mine is purple (UM claimed it was blue....) I also don't have the factory mirrors anymore. I like my bar ends much better.
Curious body damage. I wonder how one manages that??
I'm impressed that it still has the factory exhaust. Mine rusted out ages ago. Actually, I went through two of them. I had the original one replaced under warranty, then the second one got modified by the dealer I bought it from.

Sounds about right for the cost. I think the biggest bag we'd get was the 8lb for about $20. Its been awhile, so I don't really remember.
Initially, we tried to feed them separately in different rooms, then take away the food when they were done. However, every now and then we'd leave a door open and they'd sneak by and eat each other's food. They always wanted what the other one was eating.
Thankfully, I think he's mellowed out a bit with age. So, that helps since his condition was stressed induced.

I hope you're little guy gets better. We've been there, its not fun. We have a "gold plated" male cat who got a type of urinary tract infection that caused uric acid crystals to form. He ended up on all sorts of antibiotics and stayed at the Vet overnight with a catheter. It was apparently "stress induced".... spoiled little bugger. After all that, we had to feed him a prescription cat food (Purina UR). It got expensive, especially since his sister ended up eating, too. So, after a few years we started to give him Purina One Urinary Tract Formula. Still not cheap, but much better than the UR. 5 years later, he's still going strong. We've only one scare since, but got him right to the vet and caught it before it got worse. This is Loki. He thinks he's hiding.

Right now, there's no filter in my airbox. Could a restricted exhaust cause the same thing?Possibly but the couple of times I dealt with that issue the plugs read OK. Are you sure the enrichener isn't stuck or something has gotten stuck in the entrance to the air box? I'd try pulling off the airbox hose on the carb and see if it makes a difference. I don't think there is anything restricting the airbox, but that's easy enough to check.

I can see how your frustrations make it easy to ponder burning your scooter to the ground. I felt that way earlier when my exhaust studs fell out again earlier today. When it does that i have to re tap the threads again but deeper because the lower ones strip out. I use a heli coil after tapping the threads what happens is pressure on the muffler pull the entire screw and the coil out it strips out all the threat on its way out. After that the area that was just stripped cannot be used again because it's to big for the tap so that's why i have to tap deeper to grab new thread. Like i said, had to do that 3 times already. Feel like junking it sometimes. Over the three years I've owned this scoot, there have been many jokes about wrapping it around a tree, finding a cliff, leaving it unguarded in a bad neighborhood, and (my personal favorite) taking it on an airboat ride into the everglades.... I know most of the problems have been self inflicted from riding it too hard, though there were some manufacturing issues that the dealer worked out with the manufacturer/importer before they went under. I definitely have some sentimental attachment to it, which is why I keep it around and why I'm trying to finally get her back on the road.

Whenever I hear sooty black I think a restriction in the air filter or the choke is sticking. Long story. I had a Kawasaki with 80,000 miles at the time. One day it started to run then die. When I pulled the plugs they were sooty black. It kept running and dying until I pulled the air filter and it ran perfectly. I looked inside the air filter and it was filled with crap. Outside was perfectly clean. That was when I realized that the air filter breathed backwards to what I thought. I was looking at the outside and it looked fine. Once I followed the intake I realized my mistake and bought a new one. Sooty, to me, means lack of air which is different from rich. Imagine covering the air filter opening until the engine dies from lack of air. Kinda like that but with enough air to keep it running but not well. Right now, there's no filter in my airbox. Could a restricted exhaust cause the same thing?

I think all the issues you've had with your exhaust studs are a part of the problem here.
Back in August, the day that one of my exhaust studs cracked right out of the head and my exhaust came loose was the same day that I managed to melt one of my rear turn signals. (Search back for my "Salvidor Dali Mod" in case you missed it.)
I'm assuming that allowing that extra air to enter caused it to run super lean and hot.
Sadly, that was the last time I rode my scooter.

You should do an air/fuel mixture adjustment for a start... heat the engine for 5 minutes then adjust Right now... when you say heat the engine... my brain goes to starting a campfire under the scooter. That's not a good sign.
