Hey guys, this carb drain hose that hangs down at the front of the trans cover, should it have some sort of plug in it? Mine does'nt, at least not that I can see, and I've never lost any fuel out of it. What is it there for? I've seen in the tech section where it's put higher up on the trans cover, does it need to be plugged so nothing gets in the line, or is it o.k. as long as it's higher than the float chamber? Cheers, Mike

Hi guys, is there a rule of thumb about mixing roller weights, as in keeping them within a cerain amount of each other? Like if I mix 3x13g & 3x12g to give me 6x12.5g, can I do the same using 3x15g & 3x10g to again give 12.5g, or is the weight difference too big? Mike

That's what I've been thinking, the 845 belt (yep,on scoot for 2500 miles) would have settled itself in to fit the pulleys, we're only talking about 2 degrees difference. So if the new Gates belt was indeed a 32 it should have gone in and worked without problems? I guess I'll only know for sure once all the parts have turned up and I put another new Gates belt on (I have 2 new ones now) and see what happens. Cheers Dr. JR, Mike

Thanks Alley, what does the 30/32 denote, is it the angle? How can I measure that? The 3 belts I have just have the length and width printed on them, although the 842 belt I just bought is listed as 842 20 30. If indeed the belt in Dr. JR's first link is the same one as I had and is a 32 how come I did'nt have the same problem for the 2500 miles it was on the scoot? I put a straight edge on the pulley faces of the variator and the clutch and they are all perfectly flat. Happy thanksgiving, Mike

So you think the angle of the 845 belt may have wore the pulley faces, and then the new 842 belt may have been sliping too far down the pulleys? I'm guessing here, but would I not have noticed some difference in pull away or top end? It all seemed the same to me. I'll have a good look at the pulley faces tomorrow to see if there is anything noticeable. Have a great thanksgiving guys, and thanks Dr JR, Mike

kz1000st, thanks bud I'm looking at a complete variator from scrappydog at the moment, makes sense at this time to have a whole assembly even I only use the fan, will keep the rest as spare. Dr. JR, the 845 belt came with a 'service pack' (belt, rollers, spark plug, air filter....) that I bought a while back. Did'nt even realize, or know at the time, that belts came in different lenghts. It was only when I was looking to get a new belt ready for the next service that I found different sizes. Went with an 842 as it was a Gates belt and I know of that make and have had belts for different applications from them in the past and they've always been good quality. The original 835 was a Gates belt too. Was suprised to see that make of belt on a chinese scoot!!. The 845 is made by Mitsuboshi (no, that's not a typo)!! Thanks guys, Mike

My scoot has one of those in about the same place, behind it is one of the screws that holds that panel on. Mike

Hmmm....anyway I can check the variator while it's off? The ramp plate (is that the right name?) is a little stiff in it's first mil or so of travel, could be the guide bushes, they don't seem to be an exact fit. I'm looking to change the variator and clutch assembly now anyhow in the hope to eliminate any and all problem components. Have a new bell ordered from scrappydog, just trying to find the best variator for the job while keeping the cost down if I can. I want 115mm as it has a 107mm on it the mo. I'm looking at a variator and clutch kit on ebay but it does'nt come with a fan plate and I'm havkng trouble finding one on it's own. Thanks for your thoughts kz1000st, Mike

Hi guys, the 835 belt was the orignal one, that was changed @ 1800 miles for an 845 belt (along with new rollers) which was on there for 2500 miles. That was the belt that came off the other day to be replaced with the 842 that is in the pictures. The 845 was changed because that is what I thought was causing the problem maybe with the slow pull away, that same problem recurred after only 5 miles with the 842 belt fitted. Could the 842 belt really have caused the problem do you think? I still have the 835, but I'm a bit loathed to put that on and go for a ride if it is indeed a problem with the clutch and may end up doing more damage. I'm a bit stuck for ideas now. I'm actually basing my assumption on it being the bearings due to the state of the grease that's left in there and something I read on Scrappydogscooters web site (from the link at the top of the screen) about someone who had the same problem and it kept happening untill he changed the clutch assembly. Also the fact that the rear of the belt cover felt a lot hotter than the front. The shredded belt had done a fine job of maintaining it's shape once it had cooled down and been removed, I mean to the point that if you tried to change it's shape it went back to how it looked. Again, to me it suggests heat was at play and the belt was soft and plyable and then cooled into it's current shape. If that makes sense? Thanks guys, I'll continue scratching my head for now, waiting for parts to come. No one seems to know much about this scoot over here even though it's gy6 based. Loads of gear available for 50cc peds Mike
