Here's a question for you electrical savy folks... Is it possible & if so how might i go about hooking up an automotive Tach & Dwell Meter to a scooter or motorcycle for use of the Tach function just for mechanical purposes??? The bike doesn't have a tach & I don't want to put one on it ether, but I need to see what it is idling at, also need to set the rpm for timing & timing advance diagnostic purposes... I have a Tach/ Dwell Meter for 4,6, & 8 cylider engines w/ 2 leads connection... Hooks to coil ground (points system) or tach terminal (CDI system) & chassis ground... Can the mathematical formula used w/ meter reading be changed to calculate the rpm for a 2 cylinder engine instead of 4,6, or 8 cylinders...

silverfox96 No, if you evenly space the holes all the way around the bell... I've drilled 4 bells for 3 scoots w/ NO added vibrations as a result... Also, I don't believe these Chinese parts are made w/ vary good precision anyways...

skytex You don't need to take engine out of trike unless the case has been damaged... Just pull the CVT cover off, drain gear oil from final unit, pull clutch, unbolt final unit cover... Look where output shaft goes through the final unit case wall & into the gear box (if it has one), where the shaft goes through final unit wall there should be a Radial Bearing, but if I'm right it isn't there, in which case there'll be a big hole where the shaft goes through the case & into gear box... If pull the other gears out, you can see all the final bearings... Look around all the bearings to see if there's any cracks or break outs in the bearing reccesses of the case... If no cracks or break outs, you're good to go... Just tap in a new bearing on the output shaft, pull the gear box off from other side, carefully open oil passage from the existing size to 1/2" diameter w/ a series of 3 or 4 drill bits... Clean out all metal chips, put everything back together fill w/ fresh gear oil & you'll be done...

No! Installing that missing Radial Bearing is no big deal, nor is getting into it to install it... EASY JOB!!! The big deal or say the hard part of it is only if the the final unit area of the left side engine case has gotten damaged, cause then you got to split engine, & find a replacement case, that's the difficult part of the job... If it turns out to be a missing bearing & engine case hasn't been damaged, the radial bearing can be installed & oil passage can be drilled while engine is still mounted in trike...

Oh skytex Just thought I'd add... That the recommendations the other DUDE'S here are giving you, are good recommendations, & really should be looked at first as they are suggesting... I normally recommend starting w/ the easier & cheaper possibilities first, then work up to the tougher more expensive possibilities as you diagnose the problem... I just jumped the gun a little... These drivetrains have come to make me just little jumpy... NO PUN INTENDED... OK, CARRY ON!!!

skytex YES, you can add a washer to take up the slack... You need to to get your hands on a 1/2 drive socket fits, I can't remember what size though, I just know which socket in my draw that fits... You'll also need a long 1/2" breaker bar, or 1/2" Torque wrench, or a electric or air impact... Well the right size wrench will work, but not my tool of choice for the job though...

skytex DON'T DRIVE IT ANYMORE UNTIL YOU GET IT CHECKED OUT!!!
Even though this trike doesn't have reverse, I'm going out on a limb & assume that it is still utilizing the forward/ reverse box but w/ out the shift mechanizim... Which means they may still be using the same bearing set up, & if this is the case then it's probably still missing the RADIAL OUTPUT BEARING...
THE FINAL DRIVE UNIT IS COULD BE MISSING A BEARING, WHICH IS CAUSING THE OUT PUT SHAFT TO GIVE ALLOWING FINAL OUTPUT GEAR TO JUMP TEETH... IF THE LEFT SIDE ENGINE CASE HASN'T BEEN DAMAGED YET, THIS IS AN EASY FIX... BUT, VARY LIKELY THE LEFT SIDE ENGINE CASE COULD BE DAMAGED, IN WHICH CASE CAN STILL BE REPAIRED, BUT REQUIRES A COMPLETE TARE DOWN, & A NEW LEFT SIDE ENGINE CASE... LETS HOPE & PRAY THE ENGINE CASE IS NOT DAMAGED, AS THE ENGINE FOR THE 150 CC TRIKE IS NOT AS EASY TO GET...
HERE IS THE LINK TO MY 7 PAGE WRITE UP ON THIS VARY ISSUE... THERE IS DETAILED INFO & PICS OF THE PROBLEM, WHAT TO LOOK FOR, & HOW TO REAIR...
scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trike&action=display&thread=925&page=1
I WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE ORDEAL... IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL FEEL FREE TO PM OR EMAIL ME... ALSO I'M SURE JIM AT RAPID REPAIR WOULD ASSIST, AS HE IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE SAME MODEL TRIKE ALSO W/ MISSING BEARING...David Sr.

Al I just can't resist!!! From what I could see of that BIG PILE OF PARTS, I think you'll have a TOUGH TIME PASSING a PARKED SCOOT let a lone a MOVING SCOOT!!! I think I seen a front tire & an instrument panel in that pile too!!! OH, I did see something quite interesting though... I see the shift lever was connected to the SPARK PLUG!!! Guess that's the NEW SPARK ADVANCE control technology!!! COOL MAN!!! ;D ;D ;D
OH YA!!! Just happened to think!!! You won't need a trailer when you go to pick up the trike, cause you'll be able to put the CRATES in the trunk of your CADDY... A BASKET CASE DON"T TAKE UP MUCH ROOM... They've got gas powered COOLERS, now we'll have a gas powered CRATE... ;D ;D ;D

Yep!! Did you see that pile of parts AL!! I sure hope Jim doesn't come down w/ a case of AMNESIA... That just might become a problem when it comes time to remember what part goes where...
Hay Jim!!! Don't forget to reinstall the DEFIBRILLATOR between the exhaust & the intake so that the Reverse Osmosis function, functions properly... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mike Thanks for the words... I'm liking it a lot myself... Though I still have to road test it w/ some weight, I'm just waiting for my new shocks... These new shocks will be interesting, the shocks I'm trying are Gas Mono shocks... Yes, that's right, 2 Gas Mono shocks to try in place of the OEM shocks... All's I really know is they're for Pit Bike... Not sure how they will work out because they have a really nasty coil spring on them...
I also think a set of LED light on the back of the cargo carrier is a good idea...

Triker Harbor Freight Item #67623 is the ATV cargo carrier I'm using... But their other models would probably work equally as well... Because you'll probably want to change out the hitch tube to 1 1/4" sq tube x 1/8" wall which will narrow it a little & take a lot of weight off... I use a 20% off coupon, cost me $36.00...
